Holy chit mang. Very cool. I wonder if this could be imported in the USA without going through all the gymnastics required to import from Japan?

I still haven't dismissed getting this car myself but I only have room for one RX in my garage.

Rick is a great guy whom I know personally.
This car has been parked at my house on many occasion while Rick visits.

If he is the final buyer I'll have to put back on the cat for him, transfer the ownership, pay me the cash, done deal. Easy as pie!

This lets Customs & Border Patrol know what needs to be done before you can legally register the car in the US. Things that need to be done to make a (not 25 year old) car legal usually include things like correctly colored side markers and warning lights, speedometer has miles on it as well as kilometers, etc. If importing the car yourself I would expect to get tagged on some of this stuff and have to make the changes before registering, although I don't think the LHD (US and Canada) one's I've seen would need any changes.

At the state by state level I have definitely heard of people walking into their DMVs without some of this and making it through the registration process, but without bringing the car into compliance (or going through the right channels to say you don't have to) you would risk having the car seized at a later date.

The part that confuses so far is the "meeting partway" bit that a lot of cool people here seem to be willing to do to minimize travel distance and make the sale. If the Canadian owner drives into the US, what customs docs do you need to show you have paid duty tax/made an exemption? Do you just go to your closest port of call and tell them to pretend you're driving in from Canada? Who knows? I'd love to know too...
And I'm still not clear on this!

- RX8Club is not a general classified ad site; please do not post for sale ads for your used car (unless it's an RX-8), your apartment for sublease, or your used furniture, etc. These types of ads will be removed. For instance, in the Parts for Sale forum, the forum is ONLY for the sale of RX-8 and rotary powered vehicle parts, or things that could be used with the vehicle. In the RX-8s For Sale forum, the forum is ONLY for the sale of rotary engine powered vehicles.*
