I'm pretty sure this is a stupid question...but I'm going to ask it anyways.

I washed, clayed, and waxed my 8 for the first time (the claying and waxing part) the other week only to realize I have some horrid swirl and light scratches all around...probably from me not knowing how to wash before and from the previous owner. I just bought some meg swirl x and my question is, do I have to remove all the wax before applying it? Also, should I get the scratch x as well?

clay then either one is fine i would use scratch x then swirl x but i think either way would work ...

For wax removal. only a solvent will take it ALL off.

Use what we use before we apply graphic logos, adhesives or decals - IPA.

Isopropanol or isopropyl alcohol and a big soft towel, spray it on liberally and wipe off, turning frequently.

If you don't use at least a pint (500ml) you haven't done it right......

The best solvent for wax is methylene chloride. Except that it also removes your paint and is a known carcinogen! So milder solvents must be used in combination with elbow grease. Alcohols on wax will take a lot of repetition and a lot of alcohol.

Either product you're using will remove wax in the the process of using it - you don't need anything special.

Swirl-X would be what I would try first. If that doesn't work, try Scratch-X as it would be more aggressive.

i've been doing wash, clay, swirl X, wax if I go the full yard to clean the car.

other wise I just wash and do a detail spray of the car.

Using simple Dawn dish soap is the gentlest on your paint. It'll strip your car of any previous wax ( which is what you want)

1. Wash car with Dawn dish soap
2. Clay bar using a lube comprised of your regular car wash soap
3. Apply waxes in the order they specify
4. Apply a UV sealant when ALL waxing layers have been finished

i think if you use a mild dish washing soap it will remove the wax, then wash again with regular car wash...clay/polish/wax again...
