Seems like all you guys in the States prefer Zaino, or Zaino-type product. Here in the UK we don't seem to have many of the polymer-based 'waxes' like Zaino (although we can get Zaino mail order from Germany ?!).

We DO have Meguiars (consumer product) freely available over here but how does it compare with this Zaino stuff? I have spoken to a coupel of guys at Mequiars UK and they say they could get hold of the Mequiars 'pro' stuff for me.

The 'best' AFAIK over here is Mequiars Gold Class after claying and polishing if neccessary. Is Zaino Bros stuff noticeably better, or just different application style?

I have used both Zaino and Meguairs. Seriously, Zaino is a better product, but you can get very good results with Meguiars 3 step process. If you want to keep your car looking great, use Meguiars. If you want your car to look ready for a car show, use Zaino.

As a polymer product, Zaino doesn't polish minor scratches and swirl marks - the product actually flows into the scratch and fills it. This isn't permanent though, and the scratch will reappear over time as the Zaino needs to be reapplied. Obviously, Meguiars polishing and waxing products need to be reapplied as well, but the Zaino lasts longer in my experience. Also, your car will be easier to keep clean with Zaino. I have, at times, been able to simply hose the car down and dry (not during bug season of course).

The downside of Zaino vs. Meguiars is cost and availability. Also, the application process can be a bit overwhelming the 1st time, but once you get the hang of it, it goes quickly.

Thanks for the feedback - just what I wanted- someone who has used both. My problem is that I like my car to look like a showcar, but I use it daily in all weathers (South Coast UK) and on some pretty bad roads at times (cow crap, diesel particles, dust, kids with water-pistols etc !)

From what you say, Zaino should be great on a brand-new car without any scratches or dings. I wonder what the dealers use to clean/detail the car before we get hold of it? I assume this is why everyone suggests using dish-wash liquid to clean-off any existing wax before Zaino'ing.

Looks like I'll be going for some imported Zaino for the RX8 (when I eventually get one), and I'll use the Mequiars on my wife's Corolla Verso!

Klasse is said to be on par with Zaino... they are both polymers as I understand...

This is very true. During dry periods, a good coat of Zaino and a California Car Duster is all you need to keep your car looking top-notch.

Never had any experience with Zaino but I've used the three step Meguire's process on my '02 Ti Miata with what I consider excellent results. I'll likely use the same on my RX-8 until I can see some difference with a Zaino'd car.

I just started using Klasse, and I am very impressed. It's so much easier to apply than Zaino, yet has the same shine and protection qualities. It's made in Germany.

Have not used Zaino, I'll probably try it to see what all the hype is about. I have tried many Meguiars products from consumer to professional and can say they work quite well. If you're waxing by hand or orbital buffer, I find Meguiars Medallion system the best. One bottle is a cleaner and the other is a polish/wax. It is rather expensive: 10 bucks for the cleaner and 20 for the polish/wax. In addition, it's hard to find unless you order it from Meguiars.

I have not tried Zaino yet, but plan to order some.

I have been a big fan of Liquid Glass for about 15 years now. This stuff is so simple to apply / remove, and it lasts forever. It wipes off easier than anything I have ever used, and does not have all of that "dust" left behind. The more coats you apply, the deeper the gloss gets. When I have a few coats of that on my car, the dead bugs literally spray off the front bumper with water.

I have used tons of other products in the past, and I have never found anything that compares to the ease of application and length of protection that Liquid Glass provides. Some other products have made the paint look and feel about as good as Liquid Glass when it was initially applied, but after a couple of car washings the paint seemed to be right back in the dull/rough state.

I currently have about 20 bottles of inferior waxes/polishes in my garage that have about 2 teaspoons used out of them. I buy new stuff and try it, but I always seem to go back to the Liquid Glass.

You say it lasts a long time on your car. Can you go further about the durability?

I am curious to know how often I would need to reapply coats of LG during the winter months in Long Island, NY if I were to go to the car wash once a week or so.

As I do not yet have LG, can you tell me after the initial process of using there pre cleaner and applying coats of LG, what does one do to maintian it: Clean the car at a car wash and then apply a coat of LG once a month or so.

Or can I just rinse the car off with a hose and then apply another coat of LG?

Or is that over kill?

I use to use Meguiars Gold Class prior to switching to Zaino. Zaino is better, not just in shine, but especially in protection.
