goin au naturel? carnauba wax for all!
went to kregen today and got zymbol and meguuiars cleaner wax with an orbital buffer. and this was after yesterday reading the car care thread thinking it was gonna be lame. i was wrong.
i have to thank you guys in the car care thread for helping me switch to carnauba wax.
but i also think someone should post up some more wax tip for detailing dummies like myself. although i did as much "thread" research as much as i can.
i think its safe to say get a wax thats clearcoat safe if you perform a sniff test on it. both wax (meguiars and zymol cleaner wax) smelled like fruits. while only zymol state its a carnauba wax with coconuts,banana oil, etc. on the back of the bottle. meguiars didn't, but smelled similar and was 1/2 the price, although in solid form.
i always hear carnauba wax this, carnauba wax that, carnauba wax is the **** and pro detailers use them...now i see why.
so why would i recommend anyone who reads this thread to switch to carnauba wax? because! take a sniff test, carnauba is all natural!
my 3M pro liquid cleaner wax containing alcohol, petro dist., and a whole bunch of other stripping chemicals was nowhere near as slick with an undescribable softness on a test application of either 2 maguiars and zymol waxes. and another important point: neither carnauba waxes contained a flammable warning sign as the 3M liquid wax did.
so i switched to carnauba cleaner waxes not only because it smells great, but also because its all natural without any flammable stripping chemical. and because the all the pro detailers at the car wash say "its the ****!"

Klasse, acrylic.. prefer that or a polymer sealant. just last's longer imo. a good carnuba will smell like banana's.. well actually, more like banana pudding.. if that even makes since.. if it says carnuba and smells like chemicals thats because it has been synthetically mixed.. they just try to make it easier to take off.. the thing is for removing real carnuba you need about 10-15 rags for a car. it tends to get really gummy in a rag. btw, nufinish is a polish and while it cleans the paint well, it tends to come off very easily and offer minimal protection. you want a good polish, do a research online for a product called duzall. excellent polish and mild enough to use as a cutter anytime.

I use Zaino on occasion and it looks good for a few days but I don't think it holds up like a carnuba wax. Also, the carnuba gives the paint more depth IMO.

Just did 2 coats of meguiars step 3.
Pretty good with nice depth.
Not as shiny or wet looking as id like but I guess ill just add a coat of TW ICE to experiment. Ive used it before with good results just gotta make sure you don't use to much.

Zaino gives the car a gorgeous "wet" look for a week or two and seems to protect the paint for a quite a while, but a carnuba wax keeps the paint looking deep (not necessarily shiny) for much longer. I guess it depends on what you prefer. I personally like long lasting depth.
I'm using the Z-2 show car polish. And believe me, if the car were kept in a garage and meant to be shown I would use it every time. It's not, so I only use Zaino twice a year.

Zaino is known for its toughness....LOL! Generally natural waxes dont last nearly as long, especially in tough hot environments, unless its some kind of insulator wax like Collonite, and those usually leave a little left in the looks department but get that back with durability.
When you were using the Z2, what was your process? Just curious how it was dropping out so quick.
Most of the details I've done have had Z2 x 2 beading really well at 6 months.

Uhhh yeah. I've been using Zaino for years and it's a great product, but when it comes to longevity and depth nothing compares to a carnuba wax.

Usually a carnauba based wax will last maybe one to two months, but produce a much stronger shine with more depth. A synthetic based wax should last much longer..

Many of them (reputable ones like Nanny's) last more than 4 months on a properly prepped surface... So yeah. Carnaubas don't exactly give a "much better shine", IMO it lacks clarity compared to synthetic sealants. I only use it to add a bit more depth and protection.
