NASA SE at Road Atlanta
Just a shout out that the Ga RX8 club will be at this one in force. I believe we have 6 RX8's on track. 3 (maybe more) members of our gang will be instructors during this event.
We have 2 huge RV's with a warming canopy tent--bunch of food, drink including home brew beer etc set up on the top of the hill at turn 10a/b. Its a great viewing point.
We have the electronics with inside and outside lcd TV's, people with track mates, cobbs, etc.
If my car runs well---i may try to go for a sub 1:40 lap. If I do I will be the 1st RX8 to do that at Road Atlanta---ever. I can do an easy 1:44, but 4 secs is a LOT. We shall see.
I will post pics and vids afterward.
Brent one of out members who runs a 3nd gen with the LS conversion was the fastest Mazda at the Grassroots Track Day car shootout at VIR this year. Sadly he has been deployed but his spirit will be there. We do have a variety of cars--Evo's 2nd gen with LS conversion--true race car set up, Honda S2000 with a procharger install/setup, bunch of us 8 guys and one Miata.
i wish all of you could be there.

I've done a 1:42 in one of ROAR Racing's RX8s (on old tires, taking it way easy so I didn't have to write a damage check, etc, etc, insert racer excuse of choice here )
I'd love to take another stab at it with fresher tires and a bit better feel for how far I can safely push the car

yep--old don did and he won TTD with Nasa that year!! He was flying.
I dont mean to start a bench race here guys--- there will always be a faster car and a better driver.
A fully prepped race car such as Roars, Eric's etc was not being considered --Dons is a street driven car without a roll cage etc. He even has stock leather interior with regular seat belts. Woo Hoo!
The weather is supposed to be great for records this w/e too.
But for the records I dont know of an Rx8 that has broken 1:40 there? Does anyone else know?
Yall come out--guranteed fun.

that event sells out super fast every year, gotta jump on it early.
olddragger - well, if you meant to compare that way you should've said so I'm sure whichever pro series that have RX8s and have run there would be under 1:40, by how much I dunno, but I'd bet it's happened before

i have forgotten how to drive
It had been 1 1/2 years since I have been on track. I was surprised at what I had forgotten. I have been driving that track for 5 years but my entry speeds where greatly off. I pushed too hard once going into 10A ( a pretty safe turn) and once going under the bridge ( a not so safe place) and my line there was really off. It made me nervous and caused me to pause for a moment. i decided to back off.
The second day was better and a easy 1:44 was done. But whereas before I was entering turn one at 95-98mph i found myself entering 85-90mph. I was even off on my favorite turn on this track--turn 6.
A easy 1:44 was done. I KNOW the car can break 1:40, but right now the driver can't.
It was crowed also--some combined sessions which resulted in approx 80 cars on track and ALL of them except a very few where really fast cars. You know the GTR's, prepared Vettes and M3, GT3 Porsches etc.
One lap I decided to follow this pretty well driven GT3 and he was only pulling me a little on the one long straight, the rest of the time, i was with him. But I wasnt smooth at all--so I again-- backed off.
I dont have a cage nor a hans/4 point belt---if I am not comfortable--i slow down.
It was a hell of a w/e though. Weather was perfect, car was flawless and many track records were broken. NASA did good on this one( as usual). A friend of ours with a ls/rx7 track prepared won TTU for the year. Thats a fast class to play in.
