Mazda Rotary Potato?

What is a mazda rotary potato? I am going for autox novice tomorrow and doing some research on times and stuff. I wanted to see what RX8s come in at. I found this:

Final Results - 2012 PEACHTREE BMW CCA AUTOX 2

a Google search brings up this

https://www.google.com/search?q=2004...w=1920&bih=995

one of those links brings us to this same forum

Am I going to be a potato tomorrow??

My guess is its just an inside joke among members of that club. There are a couple listings like that in my local autox club.

ex: Toyota TS370 Hybrid... is actually a new Nissan 370Z owned by a well respected member of the club who frequently does good times.

Of course it was a rx8, got confirmation at the autox meet from some of the event runners. Still wonder where the term came from, I cannot find other cars named well..... other than what their names are.

BTW I suck at autox, lowest time was 47 (Russel was the instructor, he got a 42 first time with my vehicle). Ill just keep practicing and learn from whoever is willing to sit with me :-D .

edit: i am wrong, examples in post above me.

Don't get discouraged. The more you do it, the better you will get. Regardless of how bad you are at it, its still fun and worth every penny.

Ive only been doing it this year, 7 events. Ive gotten better but there is another R3 there just like mine that's completely bone stock right down to the tires. He has been doing it for 5+ years and consistently does better times than me. Even though in theory my car should be faster as it is setup with wider, stickier tires and full coilovers.
