I was hoping UPS would have them here by now so I could install over Christmas, but no such luck. Still waiting

Naturally, less than an hour after I said it wasn't here, it shows up at my door.

The install went pretty well, everything lined up the way it should and it even had a post to mount the stock seatbelt latch or harness lap belt. The biggest pain was that it was -25C this morning, and the garage isn't heated :/. I see what people are saying about being unable to center the seat, but that's not an issue with the base, the seat is just too wide. Mine is MAYBE 1/4" off center (~21.5" wide at the end of the leg bolsters), but I might just be being picky since its a known issue. The base allows about 1 1/2" of sideways movement, and it's roughly centered where it is now.

As far as height is concerned, I gained a bit of headroom, probably about 1-2" at the lowest mounting points on the brackets (OMP). Enough so that my helmet will clear easily now

Ask away if you've got questions or if I missed something.

Thank you for your contribution

1. What seats are you running? What are their dimensions?

2. Are these the Planted Technology brackets made specficially for the RX-8? Part#SB079DR

Seat is an older OMP RS. It's a good snug fit for my 32" waist and like I mentioned it's 21.5" at the front and top of the outside of the leg bolsters (widest point of the seat and most restricting point of the mounting area, still lots of room further back). I can get other dimensions via measuring tape if you need, they don't seem to be easy to find online.

And yes, it is the planted base, #SB079DR.

Thanks dude.

Are you using sliders?

Scale 1-10 of difficulty installing the seat on the bracket?

No sliders. That would be where the inch or two came from, I suspect. Difficulty was a 1. Four bolts with washers and nuts, it was pretty simple. Maybe a 4 if you had to drill your own holes, but it seemed to have enough holes to cover the normal patterns and widths.

Planted Technology makes brackets specifically for the car, but they are a universal fit to most major seat manufactures. Their brackets are also extremely low-rise.

I just mounted a set of OMP Style seats & sliders with the Planted mounts. I can no longer get in the car, the leading edge of the seat is about 2" higher and the seat can't slide to the rear as much. So I doubt the Planted mounts are going to work for most users/seats to lower the driver.

Time to break out the welder.

Hey!

I put in a Cobra Suzuka GT racing seat in my rx8, used the cobra rails and side mounts and a wedge seat bracket.

Fits really well, chair does touch the door slightly, but not an issue at all. I'm 5'10 and with a helmet I am fine, but I would have concern for someone 6ft and over with a helmet.

Gone through the whole thread, just wondering if anybody has had any experience with Nagisa Super Low seat rails in the RX8?

I've had good success with them when fitting my Recaro SPGs in my MR2 and like most people I can't get comfortable in my RX8 with the stock seats and a helmet. Figured it's easier to find out if I can make myself fit by blowing $300 on a set of adjustable rails rather than $2500 on a Bride and bracket.

And yes, for various reasons (like me being about 5" taller than my wife), I do need the adjustability.

To answer my own question, the Nagisa rail seems to work pretty well and drops me far enough down to be comfortable with a helmet.

Not particularly pleased with the seatbelt routing though, but that's more of an issue with the OEM belts and racing seats than an issue of the Nagisa rails.

Do you have any pictures of the Nagisa setup? Which seat did you pair it with?

No good pictures yet, I've got some crappy ones on my phone that I haven't pulled off yet. I'll try to drop one or two in here when I update my build thread...

I'm using a Recaro SPG (regular size, not XL) and it's a pretty decent fit. Still a little too wide across the shoulders but in the right position for me it *just* doesn't hit the door card.

in case it hasn't been mentioned, Cobra has a seat called the Racer Pro. It's very small and light weight, should be no problem fitting in the RX-8 and getting down low for helmet clearance.

Anyone here tried it?

Hi MM,
I am Alvin and my ride is a RX8 2009 JM0(not SE3P) EU model. Hope this message finds you. Hope all is well over your end. I am new to the RX8 and have been reading a number of post until I find yours. By far you have the best and most intrusive information out there. I am mechanical guy so am not too skillful with electronics. Hope you can bear with me as I have tried my best to get things done. It has come to a point where I will need your guidance and confirmation to my airbag light issue. After reading your post, I fully agree with you. Having the 1/2 watt 2.2 ohms does not stop the airbag light. I also agree on the door sensor latch part. After installing my bucket seat, I realised that the seat belt is in a lock position. I cant fully open my rear door unless i extend the belt before i open the rear door. Now this is something not everyone noted. I am glad you did. And I appreciate all that you have done on the write out.
Till time, I have the 1/2 watt 2.2 ohms stuck to the yellow airbag socket(chassis harness). I have noted that there are some difference in the color code from your drawing. Can you give a little help to this electrical noob here?
1. The CAS wires, are they necessary? (White/Green and Blue/Black) My electric seat has a whole bunch of wires as there are 3 motor on it.
2. My seat buckle has different colour code... do I path them to the same place on the main seat harness(you are reffering to the one from the chassis right?)

Any updates, or pictures? Have you ever had to spend 4+ hours driving in a single day with it? My track commutes range from 1-7 hours.

My current list of fixed-back seats that appear comfortable for long commutes:

Corbeau FX1 Pro
Recaro Pole Position
Momo Start

These are all side mount, have good "comfort" reviews, and appear that they would have good fitment in the RX-8 (trans tunnel and "B-pillar" seem to be the tight spots).

However, since i am 6'1" with a long torso, i think i might have to cut out the factory seat mounting points, weld in some reinforcement plates and nuts, and just bolt some side-mount adjustable brackets to the floor. I've seen this done on a few other RX-8s (search ARCA-EX build). I guess i could risk using a planted bracket, but i'm still afraid i'll be too high even without sliders.

Wow, pricing on these Kirkey seat covers skyrocketed since I bought these seats around 2009-2010.

Bought a new set of seat covers a month or two ago and they cost as much or more than the seats. I couldn't even get the color I had previously. Seems like they only offer black now and everything else is a customer order and the price goes a lot higher than it already is

However, I've driven these on the street before and they provide very good comfort and support, or considering how stiff and hash the suspension is they did ... kind of a pain to climb in and out of though; the side bolsters are very high/deep

not the most comfortable seat for street use, feels like you're sitting directly on the floorboard which is great for racing feel/control

have to tweak the outboard shoulder supports inward to clear the suicide door trim, actually provides better support this way

takes some fabrication experience and tools to make the fitment work in an RX-8, if I had to do it again I'd take the OE feet mounting tabs off the OE seat sliders and use then on Recaro sliders with custom bolt-on seat mounting tabs like I did with a set of Recaro Pole Position seats in a previous RX-8 build

No pictures at the moment - I'll have to see if I can dig some up.

I did drive it to Laguna Seca a few times and that's a 6-8h trip each way. No problems with the seats.
