i have to ask carbonrx8 what seat/rail he bought. i forgot, i do remember the seat being pretty pricey. (~$1200.)
but he literally bought it and the rail for it and bolted it into his car. the seat sits A LOT lower than stock. i mean.. i couldnt even see the hood of the car with his seat. i'll chime in tomorrow.

It was a Bride Gias Low Max System
Part# G02AMR Qty: 2 Bride Gias Seat
The Rails to go along with them
Part # R045LR and R046LR
He had a slight Goof on installation but overall I think his was fairly easy.
I am sure Chris will correct me if I am wrong.

I am re-reading this trend. Just wondering, have you guys ever bought non-branded racing seats? I am thinking of getting these ones...they look just like the Bride ones.

I wonder how they would work...
very tempting... still have 2 days to ponder...

Well its clear that they are not even using thier own reference material, all those source images are of genuine seat, its painfully obvious when you scroll down to the BRIDES with the branding blurred out. I would not trust any of those...

I wish I could see these seats in person before getting them. I have a feeling that the manufacturer of these seats is also the manufacturer of Bride seats.
EricMeyer, as always, thank you for your insightful comments both above and in the PM I send to you.

I go to SEMA every year and that is usually where I try out all the aftermarket seats and such.

Kersh4w and I compared stock to the Gias on lowmax rails side by side. I was shocked by how low the Gias were. At least 2" more headroom. Completely changes the dynamic (one: you are squeezed in tight and, two: your legs are much more straight out instead of sitting in a chair. )
This is not an inexpencive option but WELL worth the money. Brice at Fluid is the goto guy on this. He will set you up. They are authentic, Made-in-Nippon, high quality units and a breeze to install. Easy enought to be used as track-day only saddles.
The only issue I had was that two of the four mounting holes in the seat cradle are threaded and were painted over. It looked that it was a smaller hole than the bolt that I had. I stuck something in the hole and twisted and the paint came out as a whole, threaded "slinky." Weird. This was after LOTS of emails to Brice, who handled my idiocy bravely.
My only 'regret' if you would call it that is that I have/had stock leather, which looked nice, but suck holding your *** in place. Gias have very high quality fabric, but it isn't leather. Also, the wider hipped among us may have trouble fitting. This would be a very serious issue once I get my passenger Gias installed if I weren't married. I am fond of a wide hip. Very fond. My wife, my wonderfully proportioned wife, just barely fits. Sir Mix-a-lot had it right, and if you cant get 'em home in your car, what good is it?
Butt, I digess.
Bride lowmax are the ONLY rail system that I know of, that is not custom that is lower than stock. Period.

THIS IS A VERY BAD IDEA!!!!
non-authentic Brides (made in Canada or Taiwan) are bad news. You can recognize the Canadian version as they are fiberglass. They break in accidents. I saw a pic of one broken after an accident and there was blood everywhere. I will look for it. Authentic Brides are CF (Taiwan knockoffs are also CF; I dont know if these are good, bad or ugly. Take your chances...)
DO YOUR RESEARCH ON SEATS!
Bride made a MAJOR biz mistake back a few years and let their trademark lapse in Canada, or just didnt follow through on paperwork. This let some shady dealers in to make knockoffs with no legal repercussions.
IF YOU DONT GET BRIDES THROUGH A DEALER THAT HAS A RELATIONSHIP WITH TEES-USA (Like Fluid) YOU ARE GETTING AN INFERIUR PRODUCT. E-bay is a great place to get ripped off.
Do what you want, but I wouldnt ride with you.

I just found my seat!
Thanks Chris, I was looking for that extra inch or two, being 6'4" doesn't help when you are wearing a helmet.
These are painfully expensive but if I order 3-4 sets I can definitely get a better price, maybe we can do a GB on these down the road.
After looking at the Recaro Seat from the '09 R3 being 5k PER SEAT and another 4K for the back seat the GIAS is the way to go!

MOMO Start 2007
I went with a MOMO Start 2007 (FIA) with MemoryFab super-low brackets, primarily due to cost.
http://www.gerhardstein.net/rx8/Seat/seat.html
I'm 6'2" 190# and now fit (my car is non-sunroof).
Perhaps the bigger question is what to do with the belts. I kept the stock belts and use a car seat belt lock, but getting the buckle somewhere convenient was challenging. A true harness would require a roll bar (unless someone has found a track bar?).

5-point harness, no bars

You can install a Simpson 5-point with clip-ins in your car without any bars at all. The eyebolts for the shoulder straps will screw right into the backseat seatbelt mounting bolt holes, the left lap strap will slide over the front seatbelt lower bar, and the right lap strap eyebolt will screw into the buckle mounting hole. You still retain the buckle, just replace the stock bolt with the eyebolt. For the anti-submarine strap you can put an eyebolt through the floor under the seat, but I just lashed a nylon trailer tiedown back and forth under the front of the seat around the strongest mounting points of the rails and strapped the anti-sub to that. Now, of course, from a safety standpoint this is not the optimal way to mount a 5-point harness, but it's far better than not having one, and it doesn't require installation of a roll bar or a track bar. Plus it does just as good a job of practically welding you in the seat for track days.
