A friend lent me his "cone cam" at yesterday's WDCR autocross. The course was the same as the Saturday course for the DC National Tour a few weeks back. The files are kind of large (something like 30-35 megs each). They each include some synched video taken from a stationary location as well.
these look awesome. Suprised at the quality of the conecam rig. Did you get a chance to review your runs during the break between runs? Generally, I park my car, run the full run through my head, make a few decisions on what I want to work on for the next run, and then get out and relax. It would be nice to have more visual queues during my mental review.
Oh, I autosnagged the photos from this weekend, your "demo" photos are here:
Hopefully the machinist will get me the CAD drawings for my custom camera mount this week, as I'd like to have a protoype done before the NEDIV championships.
Dang. those videos are awesome.. thankx for sharing them.. It's interesting to get it from the perspective of outside the car.. many of them are from inside and this takes some of the excitement away..
Actually.. yours may be the first that I have seen outside the car...
Very cool stuff....
I have always wanted to try Auto-x but never have.. I just took part in my first spirited event and it was a blast! Driving at speed really makes you consider getting better suspension pieces rather than making the car go faster in a straight line... I found out that you really loose time when you have to scrub off speed because your suspension or tires cant handle how fast you want to go...
Is the "cone cam" you used the same one that VividRacing sells? The video was awesome and the sound was surprisingly good; thanks so much for sharing. Any chance we can expect more like this in the future?
Sweet, those are some of the coolest autox videos I've seen. I especially like the picture-in-picture stuff. The camera location also gives a nice view of the suspension going crazy.
That racing tape on the bumper is a great idea, I'll need to get some for next time I run... always end up with cone marks in that exact spot. Or I could just improve my driving and stop hitting cones :p

It's the next to least sticky painters tape from 3M. Before putting it on the car, I stick it on my pants or shirt briefly to make it even less tacky. I only started using it recently after some codrivers hit a bunch of cones.
What video player are you using the view them? My computer says it can't find the software to play them.
Thanks

Got 'em now. I love the way the frame rate and the rotational rate of the wheels match every once in a while and the wheels look like they aren't turning at all. You see it more with the rear wheel than the front.

Sorry, I have it downloaded, but noe of my players can read the file. Is there something I need to download to watch it with? I have never seen a mp4 format.
