Intake/Header/Exhaust

Category: Engine - Intake/Fuel
Price: $450
Private or Vendor Listing: Private Listing
Part Fits (you may select multiples): Series I
Location (US State/Canada/Int): NC
Item Condition: Used

My friend recently got a series 1 rx8, its the first car he's modifying so I've decided to help him with it. I have had an extensively modified 4th generation eclipse and SVT Cobra so I know my way around an engine a little bit. That being said I am looking for some gently used parts to add a bit of power to his car, I'm guessing intake/header/exhaust/tune is the standard with these renesis rotaries.
He has up to $450 to spend, so I am looking to maximize what he can get out of it.

suggestion: have him put the 450 towards a new set of coils, plugs, oil filters, etc. If general maintenance has already been done, forget intake/exhaust and use the money to get a Cobb. Else, save the money for future issues he may encounter.

Stock intake is the best flowing, you can get a green air filter that's as much as I'd do on an NA. Also the stock header flows just fine.

The only mods that net power for this car is cat removal/porting/cobb accessport+tune. in the future the BHR long tube header should net some gains.

To support power output and reliability

Ignition upgrade, grounding kit, oil changes, plug changes.

Everything else is a scam/a great way to lose money.

Hmm okay then, I suppose I'll have him invest in some kind of test pipe+cat back, I can do ground wires without the kit, so then all he'll need is the accessport.
Are there any other way to make gains on this engine? other than boost obviously, I just cant see there being only three(give or take) mods to do to it. What about underdrive pullies or that plasma ignition that was in 2nr a little bit ago, either of those do anything?

I would start off with getting some premix (idemitsu or 2 cycle oil), the BHR ignition, new plugs and an oil change.

Then get a mid pipe, then get the cobb and a tune.

That should leave him with close to 200whp, assuming the engine compression is good.
