I came home tonight and found out that a piece of metal fell on my car! It actually knocked off the plastic cover on my right side rear view mirror.
It turns out there was construction on the electric poles near my house. From what I've found on my car, it looks like it fell on the A pillar bounced and hit the right side mirror and bounced off the mirror and falling in front of the windshield.
Man, this could have been a whole lot worse! With a piece of metal that size, weighing about 1/2 a pound. It's a heavy piece of copper. I mean, it missed my windshield by an inch! Or it could have landed anywhere else like the sunroof or anywhere else that could have left a larger dent.
I'm just glad it's a chip off of the A pillar and happy that it didn't crack the plastic cover. I was pissed off when I found out what happened, but more shocked that it was just a chip and a small scratch on the plastic cover.

Yeah, that piece of metal really hit the side mirror hard to knock it off. None of the clamps under the plastic cover broke. I'm amazed there's no damage on the cover itself. I tried to remove the cover again after I placed it back, but couldn't even budge it....well at least I didn't want to force it out.
yeah, don't try to recreate that accident... my bad luck was when 3 lanes to the right of a semi truck, it decided to drop one of the small rocks it was holding and it bounces 3 lanes over, rides up my car and cracks my windsheild... oh the luck...

Unfortunately no one was home at the time it happened. I'm gonna find out tomorrow if there is construction going on. What really pisses me off is that someone either did not screw the metal clamp on properly on the electric post and it ended up falling off. Or someone from a cherry picker (i assume they used a cherry picker to do their construction) accidentally dropped it. IF it is the latter, then that's very irresponsible, considering NO ONE left a note on my door or gate! I wouldn't hesitate to call the city or the electric compaty (whoever it was) to complain and raise hell if it had hit the front windshield or any other type of serious damage. But as you can see, luckily it's just a 1 mm dent/chip off the A pillar.
well i just did a full inspection of my car this morning...it's only that 1 m dent/chip, nothing else...all windows are intact. Plus the side view mirror is still functional, although I noticed when I was testing it, the side view mirror was reflecting the side of the car. I guess the impact on it was hard enough to change the position of the mirror.
I'm keeping the metal clamp as a souvenir...maybe it'll serve as a lucky charm on my silver eight. hehehe.
