Lightbulb Mercury Cougar

Is it just me or does the RX-8 look alot like the new generation Mercury Cougar. If I can find a pair of pics that are similar in perspective I'll post them. Maybe then you'll see what I mean.

Blasphemy!! I don't think they look alike at all. If anything, the front looks remotely similar to the S2000.

Wink

I'm not saying the two are mirror images of each other. But in terms of general proportions and lines. In particular the roof and pillars. Take a look at the A-pillars and the rake of the windshield. . From the front ignore the fender bulges and look at the hood length, slope.

From the rear the C-pillars are obiously different but try and picture the configurations interchanged. Check out the short decklid and bumper cover treatment.

Finally look at the rear seating.

I *kinda* see it in the front. The rear is definately reaching! Though as an owner of an 88 Coug, I never liked any of the body styles after that one. With that said, I'm very much on the RX-8 bandwagon now! (obviously since I'm here, right?)

Suuuure buddy. Actually, I think the 'new' Couger looks VERY much like a DSM. RX-8 is pushing it. Thats like saying a Kia looks like a Civic. They have similar lines, 4 wheels, 4 doors and an engine, they MUST look similar!

Sorry for the sarcasm. Thru the 80's and 90's though, many many cars looked the same(why I'm always confusing Crown Vic's in my rear-view)

The new RX-8 looks are similar to the new Mercury Cougar?! That's absurd. It's almost as ridiculous as saying the jaguar X-type looks like a ford contour. They just used the same chassis is all. Or maybe like saying the Jaguar S-type, Lincoln LS, and the Mazda six use the same engine. Hah! Utterly absurd indeed.

I gotta say... it looks totally different to me... totally.

Incidentally, one thing I liked about the 8 was the wrap around read screen breaking up the roof line.... kinda like a Jensen Interceptors rear screen... and actually I like the "Hole" in the front (Grill)....

I can't see the pictures... just looks like x's to me

But I own a new style cougar... so I know what it looks like... I'd say they look the same only from the "curvey design" stand point. They both have amazing lines that highlight the futuristic look of many new cars... but my basic opinion is... Cougars are nice... but they aren't that nice!! :D

Welcome me to the board by the way!
