Crashed my R3 - Pics
Well... last monday on my way to work at 5:45am I crashed my car.
I posted a thread a while back about some bad luck with my car getting backed into 2 days after I signed the papers for it. Then shortly after that it got egged and ruined the paint as well.
09 R3, just under 49,000km.
Before:
Washed it on the Saturday
Monday morning:
I entered a turn at about 55-60kmh in 3rd gear and started to accelerate out. As I was accelerating out of it the back end started sliding out on me. There was a car in the lane to my left and I over corrected and panicked as I didn't want to hit the other vehicle and corrected back the other way and put the car into a median on the side of the road. The car was just about due for my annual service, which I was going to be getting new tires put on it as it needed tires and I had 2 in my garage already. Partially because of tires, but also because I went a little fast. I would say I was probably doing around 80kmh out of the corner and about 70kmh when I hit the median. I've gone around that corner at that speed before as it's not a bad corner or anything. Just panicked, over corrected and avoided hitting the other motorist.
The car is currently at the body shop being assessed. Icbc claimed $7600 in damage just from what you can see in the pictures. They were un able to open the hood so they sent it to the shop. The shop got the hood open and has a page of things they need to add to the estimate. So probably just over $10k in damage. They have to measure the frame as well.
My insurance was at 30% discount and will be brought down to a 5% discount when I renew. I will have a premium against me for 3 years, in which after that it will go back to normal.
I am hoping that the car is written off as Icbc will pay me out "x" amount, and my other insurance policy will actually pay the difference of icbc's pay out and what I paid for the car. In which then I can pay my loan off, and re finance another vehicle. I am not sure if they're going to write it off or not, it's a close call. But if they don't... I have talked to the shop and they will be fixing the dent from the first claim when the guy backed into it, and they are also going to paint the door that got egged aswell. Although thats great, the cars value will not be worth it to me anymore.
On a side note, I am okay. I just have a sore neck and my back has been bugging me from day to day. This is my first major accident and it doesn't even seem real when I think about it. Cars can be replaced, I am glad I'm safe.
Also, I think my other car is just jealous and put a curse on my 8. lol.

Well icbc says if the damages exceeds 70% of the value of the car they will just write it off.
The guy has to measure the frame and check to see if its repairable because as you can see in the pics, the fenders have been pushed back into the doors.
Also, the mounting points for the bumper rebar, where it bolts too actually got torn on impact. The rad support has a huge kink in it that you can't see in the pictures. I stopped by the shop on friday while it was on the hoist but didn't take any pictures.

As for the wheels and seats lol... I don't know if the car is written off or not.
Also, if the car is written off, usually icbc pays you out for the car. Then you can sometimes have the option of buying the car back.
And, 2 of the wheels had slight curb rash from the previous owner, and 1 of the others got some rash in the accident.
Seats are mint tho.
Annnd no not for sale as of right now lol.
Also, thanks guys. It sucks but stuff happens... Just unfortunate it happens after I bite the bullet on buying a new car when I've strictly only owned older vehicles that I've fixed up.

I'm not making any excuses, as yes I should have changed the tires earlier, and not pushed the car like that.

Who are you to say I can or cannot drive? Accidents happen. Even the best make mistakes and yes I will learn from mine.

I should most likely find out tomorrow whether the car is going to be repaired or written off.
I've been poking around on craigslist at FD's and STI's. A couple FD's I might go take a look at if the car gets written off.
