186k cars in 7 years (job 1 was done in february 2003) is not bad for a single model of rotary sports car...
a lot more than FD 68,589 produced
not-so-much-less than S4/S5 model (rx-7 II) 272,074 produced , but the car was available in 2 versions and more engines choice.
mazda definitely needs to split the car in 2 distinct versions: a real "familiy coupč a lŕ 3-series coupč" and a real sportscar 2 seater.
IMHO.

I wouldn't be surprised if the new 2-seater version came out and we saw the RX8 come into it's prime and then spent the next 7 or 8 years listening to people whine about how much they love and miss the RX8.
I truly wonder if the RX7's memory was more like that of our childhood years. We look back with fondness but the truth is it was filled with confusion, dealing with being stuck between adulthood and childhood as well as all the nonsense of simply being a teenager.

I saw a rumour of a new RX8 facelift again (or maybe just same but EU certified) next year, if they decide its viable....
Plus don't forget they still sell in rest of world, esp US and Japan....

Japan, will probably continue to sell till 2013, (like the FD Rx-7) and then wait and see, after all Mazda said from the start that the 8 had a 10 year life.
You will not be seeing anymore changes to the Exported RX-8.

hey I'm just saying I heard a rumour about a relaunch of 8s in the UK that's all!
As I said, possibly if they decide they can be bothered to certify it for new rules.....
Or maybe as a "final special edition" type thing....?

No problem...
I somehow doubt ANY special S2 RX-8 as Mazda just does not have an Engine that will pass Euro emission regs for 2011~..

I was under the impression that the 8 would pass already, but that Mazda couldn't be bothered to pay for the certification as they wouldn't sell enough to make it worthwhile doing it....

There are plenty of Links to Mazda's removal of the RX-8 in Europe and UK because it will not pass Euro V (from 1st Jan, 2011), I suggest you Google..

Just to put this into content...Mazda's (RENESIS) RX-8 rotary engine is not the only engine which will end the life of a particular car model.
In UK, these cars also finish this year..
Honda Civic Type-R
Ford Focus ST
Alfa Romeo's 3.2 Litre V6 Engine (made in Australia, by GMH)
More cars to follow..

I am well aware of all that. However I was just replying, as the "last 100 cars" story I saw also included a rumour of some more RX8s maybe next year....
I don't particularly believe it, and there was no reason to give it any credence...but I was just saying I heard the rumour! 8)

ASH is right, Giorgio and i were just having a discussion about other things that involved the emmsions changes.. the Renesis simply doesnt meet the e5 standards.
supopse thats a possibility, but at the same time, you just answered your own interogatives
