high fuel consumption and poor emission?

the emission is not "poor", it just does not meet Euro's newest "Stupid" emission standard. and they forgot to mention other manufactures did so much **** adding extra cat material and stuff just to be able to barely meet the new standard. Mazda can do the same thing, but the car sales is so poor thanks to stupid "reviewers" like that, there is no point making something that's not making money.

fuel consumption, that bs again, 230 hp with fuel consumption of a prius? a Sonata Hybrid? not a chance.

OH Jeez, same rubbish, different day.

Well dahhh, naturally IF the RX-8 has finished production then so too has Rotary Engine Production, and I will give you a tip...Rotary Engine Assembly 'production' finished long before June 22, 2012 (NOT talking OE replacement Parts naturally still made).

And as said before there were a few Bangers (not Mazda) that also finished production because of Euro Emission Regs.

And the "rotary" is a dirtier Co2 (why new sales were stopped in UK's Co2 Road Tax) engine even with MSP....why do you think Mazda was so excited/keen about pushing Hydro Rotary.

'A' new Rotary has to sell in all world markets (not just the US) and be viable for at least a further 10+ years..

All academic, give it up guys, I really doubt we will ever see a REAL Rotary powered ONLY Mazda ever again.

One simple question, who in the world is going to buy one???
A few hardcore RE enthusiast like ourselves?...

....
I wait for the replies..
Build a Turbo, or FD again and I will buy one.(almost NOTHING complies on the FD in Todays Regs, it is a 20+ year old design)
Mazda build a 3 or 4 rotor and I will buy one...really at what price and fuel economy?
And I do not believe all the BS (called PR) about so called 'prototypes' on peoples desks at MNAO, what do they 'make' again...nothing?.

Get a grip on a little reality..

Ash, I won't give it up, simply because I believe Mazda won't give it up.

Sure, they are rebellious backwards nonsensical passionate dreamers that don't always base their decisions on what the world deems to be the correct thing to do.

And that is exactly what I am counting on

Rotary died not because it does not "meet whatever bs standard government struck down our throats", it's because there are too many haters out there

Look at FT-86/BRZ, it performs worst than RX-8 but people praise it's "performance" and said "it hits the right spot" yada yada. and call RX-8 slow ...

FT-86 has a lot of engine problems, but hey for some reasons that's perfectly "ok" to a lot of people, but it's totally NOT ok for Rotary to have problems even the market is much more smaller ... and Rotary does not have problems to begin with ... people just love to make a scene ...

Total agree!
Yes, the rotary is dead and us RE enthusiasts are just going to have to get a grip on reality.
In this global political & economic mess we've got ourselves in the rotary just does not make sense to produce now and the the foreseeable future. End of story and buy a twenty year old FD and or a late model 8 and keep the dream alive.

It never made sense to send a man to the moon. It never made sense to send a several ton robot to Mars. It never made sense for Subaru/Toyota to build a lightweight 'underpowered' RWD sports car. It never made sense for Mazda to build a rotary in the first place, or again, or again, and again, and again.

People do things that don't make sense to other people. Mazda has been doing it all along. What makes you think they are going to stop now? Now that they have taken over Australia's #2 spot, now that they have sales increasing by double digits month over month, now that they have commuter vehicles that are so in demand that they can't keep up with production, now that they have ~$2 billion in capital infusion with the stock sale a few months ago.

Yes, it's ok for us to dream. If everyone gave up dreams and "got a grip on reality", progress would cease. Reality is only what exists today. Reality does not exist tomorrow. Only dreams.

Someone has to dream in order to make reality, and I am glad Mazda is doing just that.

not interesting... just a reminder of how hard it's going to be in a few years to source replacement parts.

That, I'm not too worried

I was still be able to buy FC engine parts about 1/2 yr ago, and how old is the last FC build again ?

they shut the assembly line down does not mean they stop making parts, parts like Mazdaspeed bumpers will slowly phrase out that's for sure. but other parts like engine and stock body parts, will still be available for quite some time.

I will say this.. FC windshields are almost gone. Black Dragon bought up the last of Mazda's stock, and I'm pretty sure that it was just a hand full of them left, but yea, you can still get a lot of the basic more commonly needed parts.

/\ Very true, but there are a lot of FC parts that are not available (no longer made), but in the end it is all to do with demand and supplier availability past the 10 year period.

What has surprised me are the parts that Mazda's...repeat 'Mazda's Distributors' DON'T stock, out of stock or no longer stock for CURRENT Mazda Models...and I can list many.

A few examples...

Try buying the following from Mazda in USA.
ABS unit for a Series 2 RX-8 and ABS unit for current NC Miata/MX-5.(both different) with DSC.

Try buying the following from Mazda in Australia.
Clutch Master Cylinder for current RHD NC MX-5
Steering Pivot Joint for NC RHD MX-5.

All ONLY available EX-Japan...6-8 week wait.

So basically unless there is a demand for ANY OE Part that sells more than once in 6 months Mazda's Distributors no longer stock parts, so the owner or independent operator (shop) or Mazda Retail Dealer has to wait EX-Japan...6-8 weeks.

As an old school Parts Manager for Mazda this astounds me that a Distributor is not doing what they used to do in my day.

Now it is all about costs, dead stock and 'Stuff You' the customer.

Mazda really do rely on their great vehicle/owner reliability.

I bought/ordered the Stock FC Dash housing a month something ago, and it took maybe 3 weeks for it to come from Japan to Mazda's Cali warehouse, which then ship it to me. it still has the box from Japan. it's in my room now haven't even open it yet.

I'm trying to get a few more things from Mazda Japan, but was told by Mazda USA that they are NLA. Including Mazdaspeed seat brackets.

Blah, it's understandable.

You bought a whole dash? Cool. Can you sell me your FC after you get it all restored?

no man, not the whole front dash, the whole dash is NLA since I think 1998.

I got the piece to cover the front cluster. a piece of plastic cost 160 bux, but I have no choice as most of the used ones are broken one way or the other

but this is not as ridiculous as the A-Pillar cover piece, it's easy as **** to break, and 99% of the time when the seat belt recall is being done (life time warranty), most dealership will break it. that's the reason why Mazda still carries it and I bought 2, 70 bux a piece of fuxking plastic. ARGH , when I got the car it's already broken in 1/2 but it was holding up with crazy glue, looks like crap so I chuck it and bought new pair ($$$$$$$$)

in my garage not installed yet, cuz still gotta do a few things on the car.

new stock shocks (waited 2 months for it to come from Japan), 90% new engine (only e-shaft, 2 rotors, oil pump and it's assembly, front cover are used) street ported, NRS Ceramic 2 pc seals, Complete new soft seals, new Mazda stock corner seals and side seals (spec to about 0.02to 0.04", I know not the best but not bad for a first timer I guess) mazdaspeed engine mounts installed, Mazdaspeed tranny mount installed, Mazdaspeed rear diff mount is in gargage not installed yet (no time to drop the sub frame), left front bearing has been replaced with new Mazda part, front right has been cleaned and repack, Racing Beat front and Rear Sways, DTSS Deleted. what else ... can't remember now.

Also have a pair of Mazdaspeed Japan seats, Trying to find the seat mounts for it right now.

mine u, body needs a complete repaint job. paint on it it's 20 something old and it has been abused by previous 5 owners (I'm the 6th)

I installed a brand new Alarm to it now, removed maybe 15 lbs of disconnected wires on the car (no idea why it's left there by one or more of the previous owners)

Quite a lot of stuff needs replacement, I can point out ALL of them. it's not even about money, it's the time that I need to put into this, got this car 3 yrs ago, been collecting dust for 2, yank the engine out last year, Start working on small stuff here and there, builded the engine early this year, car works fine, it rocks, but rear bearing has to be replaced I don't want my wheels to fly out when I'm going thru a corner @ 70 mph.

lots and lots of labor ...

problem is I am moving out of the country soon to start my own business ... car will probably sit for another year or 2 in my garage b4 any more work is done to it ...

that really doesnt seem far fetched to me....
I never thought I see the day Nissan sold a $80,000 car.......
And when the GTR came out.... I still didnt think anyone would buy it...
Now those things are everywhere!

I agree alot in what your saying.....
the years of the Rx7 where times where company's build cars because they could...... they build them for enthusiast.

They weren't making cookie cutter cars as they do today... where every front end form a given manufacture looks the same.

MR2... 300Z.... NSX.....supras.....rx7's..... look nothing like the rest of the lineup from each manufacture. If you took off the emblems you would have no idea who makes it. Now in days EVERY car has the same front end and specific look to fit the brand.

but hopefully as you said with the FRS..... GTR's.... it could be a signs of times changing...

The only place a GTR is 'everywhere' is the USA, and in Japan..it is not a huge seller.
More than twice the US price everywhere else.

Anyway, Mazda can never make a 3 or 4 rotor that will conform to emission regulations, unless and alternative fuel is used.

It's everywhere in hong kong and china too, yep, almost 2 to 3 times the price of US.

it has the performance to back it up. not bad.

16x + Supercharger. Deal :D

well, make it last over 100K mark = instant seller.

Jesus couldnt of said it Better. The only reason why people love the FT-86/BRZ is because it developed with MAD amounts of that thing called GUAP. Cha-CHING $$$$$ Dolla Dolla Dolla Billz... Yes thats right Toyota is Atleast 4 times as big as Mazda and their funding was basically limitless.

Id hope with the amount of cooperation between Subie and Toyota along with all the cash they have that they both would develop a car that could handle really well like the 8 does.

Mazda obviously already has a good formula, the only reason why people are praising these new cars that the 8 can outperform is because of the immense presence Toyota has.

Just think about the immediate aftermarket support there was for the FRS/BRZ as soon as it came out. Hell, theres already more aftermarket support for that car then there ever was for the 8. Alot more tuners can make a profit off the FRS/BRZ then the 8, which is why suddenly everyone is praising this little car that has almost identical traits to the 8.

Its okay though because the true enthusiast knows about Mazdas and how driver orinted they are as a company. No other car company IMO can replicate the ZOOM-ZOOM that Mazda has over all of their vehicles. All of them are fun to drive, handle great and generally a blast to drive.

Ill take a niche car company over a giant company any day, because at the end of the day the smaller company is going to be more involved with their customer base. When a company is smaller, their customers mean that much more, especially the Japanese. These guys are crazy, which is why the Rotary will live on... I believe

Nuff Said...
