I honestly haven't been keeping up with the changes over the last year or so... is that head unit new or was it an option before? If that works with previous RX-8's, that seems like it might be a nice swap for a clean look.
Just makes me wanna keep my 40th a little bit more polished
Purchased the 40th anniversary edition two years back and just turned 7K on it. The news of the last hurrah for the 8 in 2011 is sad but future RX8 designs have great lines if they market it in the US. I am sure that the 7's when they went out generated much sadness but the 8 line kept the rotary alive and kicking especially at about 8500 rpms and blowing through the gears. You who own one can contest that they are indeed a blast to drive and must have a sad part in your heart to see them go away. So when you drive yours just think you are now driving as I feel in time to be a sure classic. Every time I look at my 40th I know that the special editions are finished so the little extra pride and wax just makes me glad I purchased this car. I did not buy it for gas mileage that was the least of my concern and after driving a Z and other class competitors the choice was obvious. There is going to be a lot of people who missed out on a great, fun, classy automobile for sure. At least my grandson someday will have an opportunity!!!!!!!!
For those of us who own one we will live on and zoom zoom for a long time!!!!!!

I didn't notice until you pointed it out, but I think it does give a bit of a cleaner look. I like it.
Glad i bought an 09. I guessed right that there wouldn't be white again!
Amongst other things, limited colors was a killer, and it just gets worse lol.

True! Mine is blue, but I was walkin around a Mazda shop during my last oil change and the red R3 they had in the showroom was beautiful. I still preffer the blue, but i wouldn't complain one bit if i 'had' to get a red one.

Are you talking about the navigation head unit? That's what you get if you get the factory navigation option.
I don't mind red at all...in fact if I ever got an R3, I'd want the red one. But if Mazda is going to cut the color palette down this much they might as well not even build anymore.
So now for all trims, you have silver, black, and red to pick from. How pathetic.

I completely understand. Mazda is making the exterior color choices way too limited.
Though, I'm sure they'll pick things up after times get better.
It says the R3 is only available with halogen headlights? Is that right? Mine definitely has hids...
I was curious, so I double checked by calling Mazda USA, and they said that it was a mistake/typo. The customer service representative checked the 2011 RX8 Brochure, and he also checked the internal documents regarding the 2011 RX8 Model Year, and he said that both the Grand Touring and the R3 will have HID headlights.
So now we could actually say the Black R3 is actually pretty rare since it only ran for 1 MY and I'm sure production was way less than lightning yellow, which also ran for 1 year.
