Where did they get the 7.6 cf trunk space, I though it was more like 10.

The 7.6 figure seems like another typo.

Below is straight from Mazda's presskit:

"...Together, these design measures yeilded a shorter rear overhang, approximately 130mm (5.1 in) less than the RX-7's while maintaining a trunk volume of 300 liters (VDA)..."

The actual volume would be slightly greater than the VDA volume. The initials VDA stand for Germany’s Verbund die Automobil Industrie. The trunk is filled with blocks each measuring 200mm x 100mm x 50mm which are not able to fit in oddly shaped areas. The total usable volume is then easily counted.

300 liters = 10.595 cubic feet.

I agree with Buger. Typo or whatever it seems 7.6 is wrong. The Mazda US site lists the trunk volume at 75.8254 gallons. Not knowing if this volume is wet or dry the equivalent area is 10.1364 cu. ft. and 11.7952 cu. ft. respectively.
