Rotary Lovin' Wrestler
Alot of useless comments on there about the oil usage. It truly is in the design of the rotary to use oil in small quantities. Oh well, as OP said, At least I have mine! I've had it just about a week and a half now and I truly love it!

It's always interesting to see what they have to say in these articles and in the comments.
The article seemed rather fair and basically just summarized what everyone's been saying for years.
The comments are where the fun is... Someone says it was missing 100 hp to be competitive, but I'm not sure what he thinks it should be competing with. I'm not sure he understands that you can't look at the hp figure alone to determine the performance because 100 hp would make it competitive beyond its price range.

Wow...just wow. I am continually amazed by people who go and buy a car that they know absolutely nothing about, then get pissed off because of gas mileage...or adding oil????
Fing retards!
I have had my Rex for 10 days. I spent 6 months looking for a replacement for my 1990 300ZX and was skeptical at first of the Rex. I read about them, researched them, looked at pictures and all kinds of garbage on line about them.
Then I climbed into the cockpit and took an offramp at 78mph on rails and fell in love!!!!
Let the idiots be stupid, it's what they are best at after all.
It IS sad though that they are canceling the car.

So sad that it may be the end of the rotary.

I'm just amazed by the comments on oil burning. You'd think it requires a quart every time you need to get gas with the way people talk about it. The only reason the oil burning should be mentioned is for the purpose of owners caring for the car. The actual effort and costs for it are so low that it shouldn't really even be a factor when deciding to own the car.

It is in the psychic that any engine which BURNS Oil or needed to ADD Oil is faulty...
There is still a huge ignorance about what and how a Rotary works...just like there is with Banger Engines...

Here I just had to put this in the Motortrend article...
As an enthusiastic Mazda man and owner of Both the Series II RX-8 and Latest MX-5, I can tell you both cars, particularly the RX-8 is a TOTAL joy to drive, each and every day…How many cars actually puts a smile on your face, how many cars have you owned and driven which actually gives you anxiety IF you have not used it for a while, how many cars do you actually crave for and WANT to drive.
*****only the 2 Mazda’s I own****** and I have driven that many cars of ALL prices and brands, and the RX-8 for the money BEATS anything I have EVER experience as the COMPLETE package…It has more than enough power and speed, the chassis is razor sharp, steering, handling ALL are perfect/superb….you will always want for MORE power, but by far the RX-8 is the REAL DEAL and a complete keeper of a SPORTS CAR, just too bad many will never own and live with one to REALLY appreciate this engineering marvel.**** Read this from a current RX-8 owner…Quote..
“”I have never driven/rode in a car that has made me feel the way my RX-8 does – and that includes 2010 Dodge Charger R/Ts, 2010 Nissan 370Zs, even a Ferrari F430 (even though that was definitely memorable). The weird thing is, after riding in the Ferrari, it just made me appreciate my ’8 even more. It can do all that it does with no pistons, cylinders, and a 1.3L displacement. Not to mention it costs a mere fraction of the price.
I’ve also received so many compliments on it. I drive my friends around and they say “being in this car makes me feel awesome and rich.” I let my brother drive it on a beautiful twisty road and he said it made him feel like he was “driving a race car.”
I also love explaining to people how the rotary engine works after their jaws drop when I tell them it has no cylinders. Just every single thing about this car makes me love it. “”"unquote.
FOR THE MONEY…NOTHING BEATS IT..NOTHING…The Rotary IS what makes the RX-8 what it is…it’s light engine behind the front wheel line gives it perfect balance..THIS is the Joy of the RX-8 (and MX-5)…that perfect balance like YOU are part of the car..it is an extension of YOU..
I hope sjschutz did not mind me quoting him...

A local paper here named the Kansas ciy star, had a note on the first page of the automotine section of sept 23, 2011 that the 8 would not be around for the 2012 year.
I'm looking for a confirmation from Mazda.

There will be no more RX-8's made for the North American market, so no 2012 model, no 2013.
Mazda USA have already confirmed this....
Having said that the RX-8 IS still being made/sold for Japan, Australian , New Zealand and some East Asian markets.
In fact MMC had a production run on Sept 1, 2011....23 days ago.
So I strongly suggest IF you want an new one, get it NOW!
It will be the last NA Rotary made as we know forever...IMO.
