Question Why does the RX8 have the same MPG as a RX7???

RX-8:

MPG (city) 18
MPG (highway) 24
MPG (combined) 20

RX-7
MPG (city) 17
MPG (highway) 25
MPG (combined) 20

source: http://www.fueleconomy.gov

Ok not exactly the same but almost identical with RX-8 having one more mile in city and the RX-7 one more in highway. The RX-7 is twin turboed and is a decade older then the RX-8 that is not turboed at all. So why doesnt the RX-8 have better fuel economy compared to the RX-7?

i would think it is how they use to measure MPG before, their standards were worse than now, even though currently, MPG needs altering to be closer to real life.

yes I guess that is true but, I would think that the extra 10 years of development time and the lack of turbos would make for a much more significant jump in efficiency.

I think it is also how they tested the car even more, shifting at lower rpms... The rx-8 has significantly better MPG. I remember reading in an article that fuel efficiency increased about 20% after using side ports. I think the testing is extremely significant and would contribute to the lack of disparity.

Ok let me explain then... turbo spools in more compressed air into the engine so the gasoline or w/e burns more completely. I think I know why your thinking that turbos improve MPG... but that is only compared to increased displacement. For example... 2 liter turbocharged with same hp of 2.4 liter, the 2 liter probably gonna be better MPG. But turbos will NOT increase MPG.

I would attribute it the RX-7 not being under much boost during testing. As stated before when they do these tests, the cars are under light load.

I know that I don't post a whole lot, but... I have both an rx7 and an rx8 and I recall getting slightly better gas mileage out of my '88 Turbo 2 (approximately 20 average) than my 8 (average for everything I have read on this website at about 18 average). I was going to sell my rx7 but I am now going to keep it just because of that! Well, that and the fact that it has the "Kick your back into the seat" acceleration that the rx8 lacks. One thing I wonder about is the fact that the rx7 is not stock and maybe the racing beat full exhaust that I put on it somehow helps. Please don't flame me if that is wrong, I am a mechanical engineer but I don't know everything!

Fuel mileage is overrated. So what if you spend $2000 more for gas over 100,000 miles? You'll still spend more on tires then gas.

^ +1 lol. The second question would be, would VDs also be transfered by signal.

Beside, unless you could hook up a DVR inline with the signal it could make for some embarrassing moments.

Closest thing I could find.
