I know the 09 models have it and some people are particularly excited about that, or at least irritated/pissed that the older models never had it in the first place.

My question/point is: who cares? Climate control, or at least the "automatic" part, usually sucks. If you keep it in 100% automatic mode, whereby you set only the desire temperature, usually the fans blow too hard or they don't blow enough. During the summer it cools down the car and then keeps blowing rediculously cold air at the highest blower speed possible. In the winter it'll be too hot or too cold.

In short, "automatic" climate control in most cars I've been in (BMW, Infiniti, Acura, GM stuff) doesn't keep the temperature all that stable/comfortable. So most people I know disable part or all of the self-adjusting capabilities. That leaves you with nothing more than a display that happens to read in degrees instead of just a **** with red and blue.

It's just weird to me that some people on this forum make such a big deal about the 09 models having climate control. I know some systems are better than others, but to me it's practically a useless feature. Maybe the Rx-8 climate control is some kind of exception.

Yes I have been wondering the same thing myself.

I have no problem getting my head around the colors red and blue...and the numbers 1 through 4. It may add a little bit to the comfort...but all this automatic stuff (windshield wipers) seems to be getting ridiculous. Guess its good if your text messaging while driving and you cant be bothered.

i set mine on coldest, lowest fan setting. if it's too hot, i direct the vent towards my body. when i'm cooled off, i direct it upwards. If it's not that hot out, I open the windows. Seems easy enough.

I don't sweat climate control because it keeps me nice and cool so there's no need to sweat.

The CC in my MS3 is fine, it settles down pretty quickly as long as I have my temperature set properly (around 74-75 for summer). If it's REALLY hot, it'll blast cold air at first, then after a couple minutes it will settle down quickly and remain comfortable. Sure, if I knock it down too low, it'll blast cold air like crazy non-stop. Maybe you just experienced a poorly adjusted system. Either way, I don't see it as a feature, having auto climate control is kind of nice, but it's pretty darn easy to just adjust the HVAC controls on your own - even in the middle of driving.

Have a friend with the Speed 6(with climate control) and it sucks major @ss.
He's had it in 3 times to try and fix it, when he rides in my car, I just show him how easy it is manual operate mine...................as a running joke obviously.

I'm having a pissy fit about it, but I do miss the CC in my GTP. It wasn't perfect all the time, but I was able to tweak it in more ways than I can in my 8. There was a lot more variability in the blower strength and accuracy in the temperature than I have now, leaving me more comfortable in the seat.

that said, not all CC systems are made equal and some just flat suck *****

yeah i can personally turn on my own wipers and keep the climate where i want it hence being too hot turn the a/c up too cold turn it down or off....

To me a climate control is a fancy name for a thermostat. You can buy a decent programable thermostat for your house for under $100. Now, in cars, they call it a climate control and charge you an arm and leg for it. Marketing at its best...

That said I do like having a cruise control. 10 years ago I thought the only option necessary in a car was an AC but times change.

Although, I dont care for the automate climate control, I think it was a standard in the jdm rx8s, and the fact that we get a couple of things like the CC downgraded to save cost is whats getting to some people.

Alot of the imports downgrade to the cheap lever or ***** instead of the CC, unless your getting like a lexus or a infinity.

my bro's Altima SE-R has automatic climate controls, so does the CX-7 my father has, but no one in the family ever use that function. we usually just set it low speed with coldest(or hottest settings) and leave it like that. Cuz its really either too fast or too slow.

Never got the point of "automatic climate control" in most cars. I find it much easier to get a comfortable setting with non-automatic climate controls. Applies to all Nissans, Infinishiti's, Mazda's, Toyota Camry/Highlander, and Honda Odysseys I've been in. The only automatic control i've tried that I like are BMW's and Audi's. I'm totally feeling their 3+ zone climate controls also .

Cruise control rocks. Not only does it save wear and tear on your foot on long drives, but it's a lot of fun to use in traffic.

I really like the setup on the RX-8, with the amber/green light and the buttons that do 1 mph per click.

Climate control. Hmmm. For me, I just set the thing on the lowest fan speed, and the temp either all the way up, or all the way down, depending on if it's winter or summer. In spring and fall, it's not needed at all. That's when the windows go down, and the roof opens up.

Now, my poor wife, who is at that stage of life, says no car is ever cold enough. She ran the AC at max last January. I'm sitting there with RT, teeth chattering, icicle hanging from my nose, and she's sweating. I don't see climate control as being much use to her, either.

I think it's mostly a marketing gimmick.

My Saab has auto climate control. To me it's a nice to have. I don't miss it terribly with the rx-8. I can imagine especially how weak is the rx-8's (not sure about the new one) a/c system, the auto CC would always be working o/t trying to modulate the ambient temp.
And you are right, I generally set of the circulate/intake and ventilation direction rather than leaving it at auto while the temperature is left at 22C.

Any automatic advancement that allows a driver to "set it and forget it" means more time with their eyes on the road. The more the eyes are on the road the safer the vehicle. My two cents anyway.

No big deal to me - if I had it I'd probably keep it on manual anyway - no, what pisses me off is that all the parts are in place, it's just 'turned off' in the computer!

You can even see the reflections of the control icons in the display, but they won't light up - ever.

Euro spec '8s have it, but over there, Mazda chose to not put cruise control in......

An enterprising German found that if you buy the steering wheel buttons, it WOULD work!....then Mazda put out a computer reflash that disabled the software - putting a stop to that option.

Seems just plain stoopid to me.......

My wife is the same. In our Maxima the climate control isn't worth much at all since you always need to fiddle with it, but at least the dual zone lets her theoretically blow the colder air her way. I'm not sure it's very effective, but there is a placebo effect and at least it keeps her quiet.

As someone who brought it up in another thread, my take is not that it would change my life, but its more a case of:
1) this stuff has been around for a while
2) Japanese cars had it from the start
3) If you can have it, why NOT have it
