What's up with the Silvers?

I've seen 6 RX-8's in Atlanta. Two were black, the other 4 were silver. Of those 4, 3 of them had the red/black interior. As I browse the forums, I've noticed this combination seems even more popular. I think it's an odd color combination, but I may be alone on that.

Just an observation, but does anyone else find it odd?

Silver Is Silver Be

Silver is a very popular color, and I for one love it. Silver is the kind of color that can make any car or most cars look good. It can be a cool or cold color. On the RX-8 I would get silver or titanium because it magnifies the cars lines. I ordered titanium with chapperal leather. On the FD RX silver magnified the cars curves and muscularity. Also silver is the kind of color that takes a lot of dirt, meaning that the car "looks" clean although it could be soiled. Unlike a dark color like black, which shows every little imperfection, silver is very forgiving. As for the interior, when you think about it, what are the standard colors for an automakers interior? Black, beige, and grey. It's a nice change to throw some different interior color choices around: Red, blue, green or terracotta ('98 Audi A6). I think the red inserts are refreshing and the chapperal is classic.

Anyone with a Titanium who can comment on it's ability to take dirt? I live in Seattle so there's a lot of trees dropping leaves and crud onto cars and a good amount of rainy days that makes washing your car with any regularity during the winter/fall months a futile attempt.

Go figure. Of the 48 on order at my dealership in a Minneapolis suburb, mine is the only one that is silver with the red/black interior.

Maybe the manager at your dealership just really likes silver cars with red/black interior. I personally couldn't see the red/black interior looking good in anything but a velocity red 8. IMO, silver looks the best on a cloudy day, it just seems to still shine while the other colors tend to lose their intensity. That and having a silver car with black leather contrasts nicely.

also, Road & Track did the first huge spread on the production RX-8. The model they displayed in the pics was silver with black/red interior. That's when I made up my mind that it was the color combo. I want. It brings back fond memories of my now deceased 3rd gen RX-7 that was silver with dark red interior - very rare.

Mine is also the only silver (w/red/black interior) at my dealership. I love the contrast that the red brings to the car. I'ts not borring or plain inside. I'm going to continue the theme by adding a red underbody light kit, red interior ambient lights, and some red and black racing shoulder strap thingys. :D I don't want to over do the red though. I think I'll throw in a few chrome things, like the air duct bezels, just to keep it classy. I don't know. It's what I like and am happy with, and I don't give a darn what anyone else thinks. It's MY car!!:D :D

i don't know, does a silver car really count as a sports car? seems more like a sports sedan color to me. along with champagne and all those other pale tint metalic colors that the big automakers seem to think we all want.

Of course I'm a little biased
