What should I know for mine

Just got an 04 RX-8 with 50,000 miles, 6 speed stick. What should I know. Any thing I should watch out for and any problems that may come down the road? Thank you in advance.

yep ^^^

big things are keep up on your regular maintenance, oil changes, coolant changes, ignition etc, and get a scan gauge to monitor your temps and other important areas. Heat is a killer in our cars. Also allow the car to properly warm up before driving it hard, about 10mins.

the other thing you can do, and it is generally well accepted is premix. Read up on it, there is a thread a mile long. But get a good two-stroke oil (royal purple, Idemitsu , etc) and pour between 4-8oz in the gas tank on fill-ups. Helps with the seals.

IMO those are the basics. there are many other things you can do to increase reliability, such as replacing the stock twin cat midpipe with an aftermarket cat delete one. read the threads, search around. Make your own decisions on it.

Perhaps you meant coils? At that age and mileage, they may have been replaced, but it is something to keep an eye on.

50K is not impossible, my 04 had 51K on it when I bought it a year and a half ago.

Read the stickies, easy stuff. On a side note I bought an 04 just a month ago with 24,246 miles on it, original motor. Garage kept, trickle charger installed doctor just let it sit when he got tired of shifting through town.

Nice move, buy an RX-8 and then start asking questions about them.

Some say he knew two facts about Rx-8s, and both of them were wrong.
