What kind of exhaust should i get for my 2005 rx8?

So i got my 8 about a month ago and i am looking to mod it. I put a K&N cold air intake in. Also got the COBB AccessPORT. Now i am looking to upgrade the exhaust. I have been told the BORLA cat back is the way to go. But i also like the sound of a GREDDY SE cat back exhaust. I am new to this so any help would be appreciated. Let me know what kind of exhaust i should get. thanks.

Get what sounds good to you, ignore any hp claims as they are negligible.

i would pick it based on sound to me. but i cant buy multiple exhausts and the videos on youtube are all cars that have different mods than i do. so you never REALLY know what it's gonna sound like. i just want some input from other owners as to what they have used before and either liked or disliked. thanks for the replies tho!

I have gone through Mazdaspeed, Racing Beat, HKS, Borla and Greddy and I have to say the one that sounded the best to me was the Greddy SE.

What is your budget? If your in a tight budget like me (too much bills), then get a TurboXS catback exhaust and maybe will gain you extra 13 hp on the wheels.

OP, Check with some of the locals and check out a local meet. You'll be able to hear more than a couple different exhausts in person more than lucky. Best way to hear what they sound like.

Ignore Monchie's hp claim. In fact ignore any hp claims as stated before.

edit: you won't need to spend 1200 to get good sound. IMO, find the cat back you like and pick up a BHR midpipe. I see you're in VA, so keep your stock cat to swap back in when getting an inspection. You shouldn't have any trouble coming in under budget. If you don't want to go catless, just pick up a cat back and save the money for gas and maintenance.

Check the north east section. https://www.rx8club.com/ne-rx-8-forum-29/

There are some good peeps all around VA, MD, DC and that whole general area. You might have to drive a bit to get to some of them, but the bigger one always have a good turnout.

Technically speaking. Yes. In all states, a catless exhaust is not street legal. If you show up catless for inspection you won't pass. You also run the risk of a ticket or worse. If you're in a state without inspection, you're less likely to get caught.

It's simple to swap midpipes though, so if you keep your stock one, you can swap it back in before inspection.

are you high off your ***? Your claim would have been 0.98375% more credible if you mentioned something catless/high flow cat .... but a catback netting you 13hp ... not even at the crank but to the wheels???? lolol

i tried to step around that for the thread's sake.

Even mentioning it being catless, 13hp to the wheels is a stretch without tuning.

BHR midpipe can only be had through BHR. or http://www.blackhaloracing.com

cat back can be had through any of our wonderful vendors as well as bhr. Check the vendor section for links.
