91 is the minimum recommended by Mazda, but people have used 87 without problems, but there are possibilities of knocking and loss of power if you use 87. It depends how your 8 tunes according to octane. I personally prefer 93. Oil...5w20 is also recommended.

Use the search feature.

Shell 93, Castrol GTX 5w-20

BTW: Why do so many people routinely act like flaming *ssholes with newbies? Jaysus H, they're just looking for help.

Maybe this whole flaming thing is like high school. Didn't everyone have freshman assasination day? It's like a right of passage. Some get it worse than others, but in the end, we're all just one big'ol disfunctional family.

But seriously, flaming helps. It is a deterrent to others to look for answers before requesting them, which keeps the foum from being populated with redundant information. Most of us have already been guilty of this at some point anyway, but it works. It's more of an annoyance to those that like to help and have helped before by answering those same questions. I liken it to parents answering the questions to little kids. Getting asked the same questions over and over bugs the **** outta people, especially when the information can be found in a stickied thread or gee..dare i see...can be found with a simple non-boolean search. Granted..I haven't been here long, but this is something that I picked up on real quick. I love noobs. Their the cutest little ***** in the world. I'm all about brainwashing them into getting an RX8, one more for the good-guys. (j/k)

But there you have it. This is why people flame.

Seems like we've been getting a lot of noobs lately.

why cant someone just answer the question and be done with it? Maybe i was wanting to get a discussion going and had follow up questions and didnt want to just search. This is the first forum that all i hear is search this and search that. Not everyone is an "rx8 expert" and all this flaming **** doesnt help anything. All that does is make yall sound like a buncha douches and make us not want to be a part of this forum.

And as for the manual comment, I bought my 8 used and it didnt come with one. That would have been really much easier than coming on to this forum and being flamed.

aright aright i'll be nice tonight... gas wise use anything 91 and above, as recommend by mazda.... most gas stations are 93 anyway so just use that... some guys on the forum have used 83 which is plus, and havent had any problem... but just ot be safe use premium..

as for oil best one is Castrol GTX 5w-20... mazda when they do oil changes for you they use Pennzoil Advanced Protection 5w-20.... as for the whole synthetic topic, it has been talked to death so just stay away from it unless you go turbo...

P.S.- the search button is your friend.... next time someone might not be so nice, but everyone is friendly on this forum as long as you did a search, and couldn't find anything.... GOOD LUCK

lots of interesting stuff in that damn owner manual they gave you.... i think they might have pointed it out... i know when i got my car they did...

if you choose not to read it... you need to find a place that sells 85 oct gas and run 20w 50 detergent oil in it....

and the stickys are GOOD

Conversations about whether or not you can use a lower octane kill me. What are we talking about, a savings of 10 cents a gallon for what is probably a 13 gallon fill up? Congrats on running a lower octane level than the manufacture states you should. If you fill up once a week, you should be able to buy the venti size, extra foo foo drink at Starbucks once a month with all of your "savings"

With the gas price difference at my usual gas station I would save approximately $1.82 per fill-up. Really, not that big of a deal so why should I try less than recommended?

Its not the money, I just simply didnt know what was recommended. All I was going by was what the sales guy told me, but he also told me they were FWD. I didnt get a manual and wasnt listening to that guy so I had to ask.

WOW FWD? That's just heresy at its finest.

On another note, try not to take the flaming too personally. You set yourself for that one. After you spend some time here, you'll find that this can be a fun place to hang out (if you can call it that) and pretty soon, you'll amass enough knowledge and you'll be pwning poobs in no time.
