I agree - the BRZ doesn't hold a candle to the RX-8

I tried pulling my ac compressor out and that bottom bolt next to the steering knuckle does not want to come out, tried multiple different options and still can't get a good gripe on it due to steering u joint.

On the plus side, installed the BHR coils, wires & plugs

I'm not familiar with that particular bolt.
I have some short swivel sockets that have come in handy, Idk if you already have some.

I found out the hard way that Dropping the lower rear control arms is the easiest way to R&R the rear Shocks and Springs. The whole unit comes out the bottom and I can assemble it outside the car and then put it back in..SO MUCH EASIER!! I needed an alignment anyway...

You don't like the color or the stock wheels? I am a fan of red+bronze, and I like rocking the mazda logo

went out for a late night drive to pick up my BHR ignition coils and plug wires from the guy who brought it in. Almost had a motorcycle crash into me while he was "swerving". Damn two wheelers.

Not really much to do with the car for now, but started building my workbench in my garage (new house) so I can finally unpack my tools and put them away and then will have room to install my BHR Coils!

Had an amazing sunset when I was at work. I was happy that it didn't show how dirty Bleu was. (She got a bath the next day).

So about 4 weeks ago my ignition coils went kapoot, or at the very least 1. (Felt like my motor was toast, at least as much as it could while "running") any hoo, it took me a bit of scraping to gather the cash to fix it. I didn't want to replace 1 or 2 coils just to have the other 2 go out in 5 months. So for a set of generic autoparts store coils, I'm looking at $140, so I decided that I wanted to go ls2 (d514a) coils. I found a set of 4 that were 0 mile take offs, a little scuffed but otherwise new, for $70. Factor in the wiring harness and I'm looking at $100. I custom made my wires at $70, about $20 more than stock wires, but they are all MSD, and since I was doing wires and plugs regardless I was still at $10 cheaper than the stock option. I snagged 4 new plugs for $63, and I was set.

I finally got them installed and I am very happy. Everything is smoothed out, idle feels great (formerly pretty rough), and top end is awesome. At the top (around 8300 rpm) it felt like I was hitting fuel cut and it just didn't want to go, now it pulls up to 9500 rpm without missing a beat. It reminds me why I love the rotary so much (though I first fell in love with it because of the unique engineering).

In summary, when you consider the cost of the failure of an ignition coil to include 4 new coils and new wires (plugs are a constant between both), it is potentially cheaper to go D514a.

Side note: for $135 you can get 4 brand new D585 coils. They are in the same family as the D514a, but are more powerful. And if I wouldn't have gotten the takeoffs so cheap, I'd have gone that route. (
