Weird - keys

I started the car, then ran in the house, left the car key on the dining table, the car was still running, got in and drove about 40 miles before I noticed the key symbol flashing under my fuel gauge (09 RX8). I checked my pockets, remembered I had left it at home, turned around and drove back home. In effect, I took an 80 mile trip without my key.

Obviously, if I had turned off my car, I would have been in trouble so far away from home. I just did not know I could drive so fare without a key!!!

I suppose, in theory someone could steal your car even if your had the key in your pocket and drive a couple of hundred miles away if the tank was full.

if your had the key in your pocket

'No Key' only affects starting, the car will run for hours, until you stop the engine.

I don't get it? You said, you started the car, you went back to the house, then drove 40 miles. So, did you turn the engine off first before you went back to the house? You were driving without the key on the ignition? Is that what your saying? I'm a little bit confused on what your saying...i'm sorry if i don't understand you. I just never heard about starting the car without the key (unless someones trying to hot wire it). Anyway, nice story bro.

Keyless ignition... the key just needs to be in the car, it detects it, and there's a switch or button ignition. So he got in the car with the key, started it, then went inside with the key and left it.

The key would have to be inside the car to start it... So, someone could steal the car if you had the key inside the car, started it, then got out with the key and left an opportunity for someone to jump in and steal it. Once they drove off, they wouldn't be able to turn it off and start it again. It's about the same as having a normal key-turn ignition, except it's a lot more difficult for the thief after it's stolen.

Lmao... ive done this before =(
what i hate about that key, is that i cannot find a Key ring to Fit in that tiny *** hole to attached to my keychain...
Also, I hate the fact that the Key actually falls out of the holder so often. I cant found how many times ive lost the actual key. ive had to search the parking lot, car and house many times.
They could have designed that key ALOT better. =/

I find that shops that cut keys/sell safes usually have a pretty large selection of keyrings... many sizes.

I have never lost my wallet in to 20 years I have been carrying one. Left it at home a couple times. But now that my key is in it, I can't do that. Can't even get in my car.

CA

Here is what I came up with as a solution...
remove the battery from your spare advance card key. Place the key card and battery in a pouch of your liking, I use a silk credit card pouch that woman attach to their bras while traveling or hiking.

Attaché the pouch in a discreet place inside the car or trunk. don't leave it in the glove box.

When you exit your car, and figure out you cant lock it, retrieve your spare key and activate it as described in your owners manual.

The op did not mention that. I know about the keyless ignition or the start button. I just need to understand what the op is saying, thanks.

What's really fun is when you put it in the small pocket on your jeans, and stop to pee on the side of road.

When I saw the flashing key light a mile down the road, I could'nt find the exact place I stopped because it was grass, and I had to leave quick before the cat caught the grass on fire.

I had to drive home to get other key which was luckily only ten miles away.

With all the annoying buzzers on cars why couldn't the key light also scream at you!
