We had a vistor today at the reman plant....

Sorry I have been so quiet, work is steady and nothing much has changed. Now we are doing light 2009 rx8 training and moving to 2nd/3rd gen rx7 training. We were visited by the SpeedSource Mazdaspeed GT RX-8 #70 driver/owner today after they did the chantilly(VA) show yesterday. They did a photo click show for us on how they built it and toured the plant. You guys will hate us but as a gift they gave us the 2008 Daytona 24hrs championship hood signed by the team......you have no idea how much I loved it along with the bosses so dont worry its appreciated and is on display but no tours still for the public as far as I know. Anyways on my 15min break I took as many pics as possible for you guys. Sorry I have a pretty old and cheap camera but I do enjoy trying wild angles(through rotors). Enjoy my friends......

"Yoshii" is back to train us for a little while again, made him do a shot, kept blurring it since I had no tripod so I had to use flash and it was bad looking, sorry.

That is just awesome. Thanks for keeping in touch. You should tell your bosses that there are a lot of rabid rotorheads in the region who really want a field trip, dammit!

For a crappy camera those are some hella good shots! And yes open the plant to tours! I don't even own a rotary (yet) and I'd kill to see that place up close and in personal.

Too bad you don't have any underhood shots. Any idea what kinds of modifications the engine has, if any?

Well the sucky part was it was stripped for display, no motor and if you can tell the first thing I saw was no calipers on it. Also I was noisey and wanted to flip the lights on to get a shot, reached in and flipped the switches, nothing, that when I peeked through the wheels and saw no motor therefore no battery. But I knew it had a 3 rotor 20b before they came in the cars, I watch a little of the races when there on and have seen one at laguna seca when I lived out in norcal before I moved here.
Heres the #'s....
425hp@8500.....this year they have to keep the redline at 8500 b/c the cry baby porches complain that on the daytona like courses they cant hang with the rx8's top speeds.
285ft-lbs torque

Mods I dont feel like listing, you can probably research the rest. All I know is the body itself bumper to bumper including dash weighs 64lbs for next year. The slide show they showed us had next years body for there car that japan shipped them fully carbon fiber including dash. Car weighed(I believe) 2288lbs total.

Supposedly when they come to VIR's track we may take a bus up to the race w/family for employees and watch them, I told definately, my wife was a flag girl for realtime last time I went to a race so maybe I can get a shot of her as mazdaspeeds flag girl haha.

For a non-8 owner, you sure as hell add some of the best content and threads of anyone I've ever seen.

Amazing pics.

Great thread Sleepy! I was at the Rolex 24 this year and it was a very exciting time to be sure for rotary enthusiasts. Talked with the SpeedSource guys in the garage area on pole day and they were totally stoked after taking the pole. As was I since they informed me that they had been using one of my 3-rotor compression tester just minutes before I got there.

They are mandated by GrandAm so you can differentiate the GT from the Prototype cars at night.
