Warning - Let it idle for awhile
Yes, I finally screwed up. I didn't let the car idle after I washed my RX-8. I got busy and just drove it the 12 feet into the garage and turn the engine off. I paid the price. It flooded the engine and the next day I could not start it. There is no way to fix this except tow it in for service. But I was still under my 50,000 warranty and Mazda paid for everything. Dang, I would say I knew better but obviously I didn't believe the dealership. I had the car since 2004 and it finally happened to me - what a dummy I am.

Thanks for the heads up. I always fear the same. I park my '8 in the garage.. everytime i deicde to take it out or park it in, i first drive it around the block for 3-5 mins and then drive it in. Now, after your story, I am all the more convinced that i should NEVER doubt this.

I cut mine off cold all the time and crank it back up. It's a 2004, and it cranks fine everytime. Actually, now that I think about it, I kill the engine a lot when it is not warmed up. Pulling into the garage, going across my school's campus, etc. I'm not sure if I have the new starter or not, but everything works fine for me.

Crazy!
This is crazy... you shouldnt have to drive around in to go park it! If I want to, I should be able to fire it up and let it idle a couple of minutes and shut it right down. I should be able to do anything like that... pull it out to look at the beautiful silver paint for 1 second... get back in and pull it back in the garage and not have to worry about flooding or the need to drive it around the block a couple of minutes!

What? Just cause an engine is piston it is POS?
I pull my piston engine car out, wash it pull it back in..... the 8 I have to pull it out, drive it around, wash it, drive it around some more and then pull it back into the garage. Oh, and the piston engine gets better MPG while still have 100+ or so more hp and tourqe over the rotary in the 8.....POS I think not.

One of the things I find most appealing about this car is that it is a driver's car, meaning that a little more time needs to be spent caring after it, but the rewards are more than worth it. I have a '73 914 that requires simple maintenance every time I drive it. Nature of the beast. And I have owned it for better than ten years.

I knew what the deal was before my wife bought the car. I researched it and knew the shortcommings of the Rotary and I could deal with it if that is what she wanted. She doesn't race anyway so power and tourqe is not really an issue.

Same as all my other posts, I'm sorry. As in one post I clearly stated... I love this car. I just wish it didnt do some things. I dont think when I bought the car that flooding was a possible issue with the car just because its a rotary engine. I'm really sorry for venting on everyones topic.
