unsettled feeling

i got my rx-8 in early september 2005. its a 2004 titanium with NAV, appearance package, strakes, but not much else. At the time, $22,000 sounded like a steal to me, but reading all of these claims of $8000 under MSRP, i'm wondering if i ought to trade up...new 2005 with leather seats, and a few other bells and whistles if theyre still around. my car has approx 31k on it, but is in what i would consider like new condition with the exception of the tires.

just wanted to hear some opinions on whether i should just stick with what i have, or look into getting an 8 with fewer miles and leather interior, with the possibility of sacrificing my NAV feature (that i love so much, but could live without) to save a few dollars. envy may be getting the best of me, and i cant stand thinking there are better deals out there.

i love my 8, and enjoy any time we get to spend together, but this thought has been nibbling on my brain lately. what say you?

stick with the car, you will most likely get offered 16k for you 2 owner 31 k miled car and a new 2005 with all options including leather will be atleast 25k or so plus tax tag. You will most likely be paying out your behind for this trade.

I have a feeling you would take a pretty good hit if you tried to trade up to an 05 now. You can try playing with a dealer and see what they will offer you.

I doubt a new 8 will drive differently from what you have and you will definitely take a hit on trade in, even if you did start at only $22,000.

The question is if the leather interior and other GT gizmos will bring you enough pleasure to offset the $4K-$5K (or more) the transaction will cost you.

Who cares if it has fewer miles? That's a pretty temporary gain. Also, personally I love the cloth seats. I'm a sucker for microfiber, I guess. And if you like your NAV system, is the sunroof really worth the trade? Lots of posts mention how the sunroof in this car isn't really all that great. Sounds like for you, fun(NAV) > fun(sunroof).
On top of that, why take a hit for the dealer to lowball your trade-in, and another hit for instant depreciation of the new car? To pay thousands of dollars for all that...man, I'm just not seein' it.

Save the money and get yourself a kick-*** sound system!

okay. well, i was hoping i would get these types of responses. i suppose, if i wanted to keep the car, then the question didnt need to be asked. but, with all the talk about way below MSRP i felt it would be worth while to hear some opinions. mostly my dilemma deals/dealt with the feeling of being ripped off by paying as much as people claim to be paying for a new car.

thanks for your advice.

i also love the cloth seats, but getting into my friends G35 with leather seats has a whole different feel...the feel of luxury.

Generally people don't get an RX-8 for its luxury feel .... unless they are upgrading from something spartan like an EVO or WRX.

i would stick with your car, its not worth taking the hit. its true that new rx8s are going cheap right now, it also means that your trade in value is depreciating very fast too. So from a financial stand point, i advise that you keep your current rx8

How can anyone "consider their car new" if it has 31,000 miles on it?

I got you now.

I just clocked over 3,000 on mine. I consider it fully broken in now.

I think 30,000 miles is about the point where one knows whether their affair with a car was a fling or is a deep love affair.

I agree with everyone else though - You'd take it up the keester by trading up at this point, to no real advantage.
