Uh oh...need top points for convincing!

Hey all. Here's the dealio. Soon I will be pushing the 'rents for a car...and of course I would like an RX8. It's an absolute beauty, and just seems like a damn good vehicle.

Here's the good news. Dad loves it!

Bad news? Mom not so much. She thinks the maintenance will be too much, and would like me to be in a "new" car instead.

I DON'T WANT A NEW CAR, I WANT AN 8! (I sound like such a whiner...hehe)

I know many of you disapprove of teenagers having an RX8 as their first car and all that jazz...but I'm definitely up for the challenge.

What I would like, however, is the TOP reasons I should give my parents for an RX8.

I live near Chicago if that'll sway or help any judgement for options.

Basically...getting a car all depends on the insurance costs as well...

Thanks a bunch...

I am going to guess that you are still in high school. With that, you don't need an RX-8 because its not if you will crash it, but a matter of when you do. On top of that, expect your insurance rates to be 2-3 times what any of us pay...which will end up being more than your car payment.

Of course...

I will be a senior next year.

And I completely agree with the matter of "when" I would crash it, whether it be my fault or not. Completely understandable.

Yeah...it was the insurance that worried me. I want this car sooooo damn bad...but the insurance price might ruin it. Damn.

Thanks...

I got my 8 in HS & haven't crashed it since.. Maintenance isn't much to be honest.
As far as insurance just have your parents add you on to their coverage for the lowest price. Make sure u have enough gas $ though plus extra for mods!

insurance for any sports car at your age will be extremely high. And if your mom wants you in a new car, there are always new rx8s

ill be a senior next yr and i have a wb 04 gt so its all good and no crashes and its a unique car to learn about also my car is not considered a sports car by the insurance company becuase its a 1.3 liter lmao so theres a point for you it saved approx 300$ a year have fun if they read any of the bad things about it theyll change their mind so keep them informed to an extent but not all the way haha but the bad things are all things you can take care of EASILY if your lazy and dont like to check the oil or change it or cant pay for premium gas dont worry about it if you dont care enough to stay below 4k rpm before its warm get a different car baasically if you cant treat it right dont worry about it. and if you want to turn it off before its warm then yeh haha

i just changed my pads n oil this weekend which is extremely easy and ive done some other small stuff to it with my short budget and i wash it weekly and ive waxed it once and its over due for another now ive had it a yr ive been 15,000 of my own miles in and it has a better water pump and i had to get the cat replaced under warranty cuz it was clogged and ive changed the plugs and coils soo if you get it enjoy working on it its half the fun of haveing an 8 also MT MT MT and youll enjoy it more if your not in bumber to bumper traffic daily then thats the one you want i dont mean to spill my cars story but i didnt want one i thought it was a hassle to have to shift but its the best in my opinion

but yehp there ya go and i dont mean to come off mean about the maintenance its just so many ppl post redundant threads cuz they dont know how to take care of it when they shouldve been ready to take care of it when they bought it or searched haha

@AJRx892 - Hah, thanks man. Hopefully it won't be *too* much for insurance..

All I really hope for is that my parents see that this is indeed a wonderful car (and that the insurance won't be too much)

Yes I'm on top of the maintenance...I know you can't be lazy with this car.

Also, of course MT! Wouldn't even CONSIDER an AT for an 8.

@Krazed_RX8 - That's definitely a good thing. Can only help for sure!

@Bigbacon - I think they will at times. I will have to spend whatever money I will get. I'm currently working on iPhone development...making crappy apps just learning how to...but hopefully I'll end up with some cash from that over the summer or something, plus some random work around the house and whatnot. Plus...I'm not going to be driving *that* much...hopefully gas'll last me a bit...

The car was the only vehicle to get a 5 star rollover crash rating at the time of creation *This is even WITHOUT B-PILLARS*

The maintenance isn't any worse than most other cars. Check/change the oil all the time and regular preventative maintenance. Car will treat you right as rain.

The thing has like a bajillion air bags.

Insurance classifies it as a 4 door, 1.3 liter car. Insurance won't be too insanely high *I pay less than a friend with an 06 Mustang GT....*

Just keep bringing up how safe it is. There are a million retarded drivers out there, so having a very safe car is good. That should at least HELP sway the mom.

@bigbacon - Yeah I'm not.

Anyways...

All I'm saying is it'd be a privilege (sp?) to own this car. Really. I'd be up for it. But some of you disagree, and I'm fine with that.

I guess the only other options I'd see are a Hyundai Genesis or Civic Si 4 dr.

I guess right now it's a hope whether anybody likes it or not. I'll find out in the summer if I'm even getting a car.

nah i didnt fail grammer i just figured if im not writing anything important why use what i learn this isnt a show how smart you are thread he was asking for some points for his parents

put up with your stupidity? or other peoples? you didnt specify

i wasnt looking for your comments on my post is something wrong in your life where you must criticize everything someone says?

its people like him on the forum that will make you not want to ever post on the forum becuase they attack you for no reason

i mean you didnt specify you wanted me to proofread and get my post published before letting you see it did you polishdemon?

and thats fine if you dont like handouts from parents i consider myself lucky for what my parents have provided for me which includes public schooling despite what he believes haha ive passed every class exceptionally never in one was i told formality and use of grammer is needed when sending an informal, un proof read, rapidly typed post

and if my grammar really bothered you that much instead of criticizing why didnt you fix it? haha some ppl juts agervetes ya wen dey dnt usee cowect gwamma dnt dey?

Lol at CyberPitz... bajillion airbags.

Speaking as a parent of a college age kid, on the positive side, the car is really safe. You'd def. be getting one with traction control, right? Because I have a Sport with no traction control and it can be schizy on wet roads.

The first negative thing that jumps to mind is that (even at MY age) it's tough to keep the speed down, especially when somebody's challenging you. And they do. It's addictive to go fast in these things. You sound like a pretty level-headed kid but that's something I'd say to watch for.

Let us know what happens!

Insurance can be a problem, but don't let that demotivate you or your parents. If you patiently dig around, you can find a pretty decent price, even at your age.

Like yourself, I'm also a junior in high school on my way to becoming a senior, and I'm paying about $1.5k yearly. Not so bad, huh? It's important that you push insurance companies on considering the RX-8 a "four door" as opposed to a "sports car". That's kind of a deal-breaker.

Good luck.

@Stenobeth - Thanks, much appreciated! I'd like to think I'm aware of what's happening. Truth be told, sometimes a little *too* cautious, but I think when it comes to driving I'm just fine. I don't really want to get into crap as soon as I get a car, if ever.

@Gtog - That's the price I was thinking it'd be about. I'll definitely push the idea of a "four door," although they won't mistake it's a sports car.

Thanks to all for your opinions so far!

Speaking of failing grammar....

Correction: "I come across as an ******* because I've put up with stupidity for way too long."

Normally, I wouldn't be inclined to "correct" a post. However the irony of your post was just too tempting. It's similar to when people write "your an idiot!" which then begs the question: If you don't know the difference between "your" and "you're".... who is the real idiot?

Not knowing the proper uses of the different 2s (to, too, and two) is just way too common on the net.

Sorry to nit-pick. I'm a teacher and it's what I do. Other than that, I agree with your advice.

my car is about $40 every 6 months less to insure then my brothers 07 subaru impreza (base impreza), and hes 4 years older then me... i dont beleive the rx8 is a very pricey car to get insured, but it might be different in other areas... I dont think they see much in the way of sports cars around here, except corvettes.
