Trunk Size!...does it matter to you or not!
I need some inputs.... How do you feel about RX-8's trunk size. Could'nt it been a little bigger with a spare included, where you can fit two full size luggages.
But most importantly what do you the RX-8 owner think.:D

I took out my spare and onoly put it in for long road trips. ANything closer than 100 miles to home I dont bother. The goo can and a nice tire patch kit are all you'll need in 99% of the cases anyways.
That said, the trunk size is OK for me. I just wish the opening was 2 inches deeper. Thats my only caveat with it.

I wish the opening was slightly larger.
I can however get a 2x12 Guitar cabinet with the amp built in.(line6 flextone II) for those who might know. My two Les Paul's in cases, my pedal board, and a overnight type bag. If I need more room, I have the backseat.

It sure does! The 8 has a huge trunk for a sports car. Ok it not huge compared to an full sized sedan, but there's no wasted space that can't be used for storage. Trunk lid size is the limiting factor.

I fly regularly for work, and my checked luggage fits the opening of the trunk.
Massive storage for a vehicle this size, if you can get it past the narrow opening.

Coming from a Miata, I'm still giddy over the trunk space (no, I don't have the spare tire). It fits two of those carry-on airline-type bags with room to spare, and there's always the back seat for additional stuff (no kids either). I do wish the vertical opening were just an inch or so bigger - I bring work home in a cardboard banker box, and it's a squeeze to get it through the opening.

Like most drivers, I find the opening too small. The suicide doors make it convenient to put extra luggage in the back seats. I carry a blanket to protect the seats and plastic fixtures.

One of the first things I noticed when I was checking out an '8' at a local dealer was how "huge" the trunk is. I was expecting a Miata sized trunk, so this was a pleasant surprise.
And I love the suicide doors! I was shopping over the weekend and bought a nice nightstand which came in a large square box. Obviously, it wouldn't fit in the trunk, but I really didn't think it would go in the back seat either. The center tunnel kind of restricts large objects going back there a bit.
But what do you know?! The thing fit in the back seat just fine. If the car was a coupe, I would've had to borrow a friend's vehicle to get the table home, but thanks to that massive opening the suicide doors give you, I had no trouble at all.
People in the parking lot were staring in disbelief -- they never thought I'd get that big box in that "little" car. LOL.

i copied this from one of my previous psots. if you search for "trunk" you will find other peoples lists also.
"well here is what i was able to fit in my rx-8.
in the trunk-
1 2 person tent
1 bag of tent poles and pegs
2 sleeping bags
2 sleeping pads
2 carry on size suit cases
1 picnic basket full of various pots pans and untensils etc
1 small backpack
2 gallons of water
a couple or 4 extra pairs of shoes
plus 2 quarts of oil and the tire inflation kit which are always there in the trunk.
1 cooler on a back seat, safely buckled in. and on the return trip a nice case of napa valley wine buckled in the other seat. plus me and my wife plus a couple of jackets, hat etc. not bad for a sports car on a week long,2000 mile journey through northern cali"

I BARELY fit 2 10" sub's in the back , because the trunk opening is so small , but besides that , I got nothing to complain about , it's decent sized.

Haven't you guys heard: "Size doesn't matter." (At least that's what I keep telling myself...)
Seriously, though -- my last sporty car was a 2000 Toyota MR2 Spyder. There was no trunk, just a tiny tiny little bin behind the seats. You couldn't even put a briefcase in there. By comparison, the RX-8 has TONS of space!
Of course my other "car" is a 2003 Toyota 4-Runner, which makes that RX-8 trunk look like a thimble!
But for a true sports car, the trunk is GIGANTIC!

I have the spare tire and, coming from a Miata I'd say the trunk is just fine, especially when you consider the rear seats can be pressed into service. But, probably not going to work if you're picking up 3 people from the airport. Still, it's fine, if not surpisingly generous for what the car is.

Two Les Paul's and a crate with Amp. I can't believe that. All of my guitars ride up front as does my amp. That is great packing and I'm glad to know that the eight has that kind of trunk versatility.
However, for sports car trunk space, the 8 ain't got nothin' on my 1967 Alfa Romeo Duetto Spider. The spider will take a full size suit case (no overnight bag here) a case of beer, and assorted small bags and car stuff like oil, jack and tools and the such. For a sports car that trunk is huge, and the car itself is tiny in comparison to the 8. Of course it is missing two seats, a fair amount of width and length and height and alot of straight line speed. I still can't figure which corners better, but they are both sports cars when it comes to handling.
Both cars do have one important thing in common: there is enough room to put that special someone into the car, enough luggage for her and me, and drive her somewhere nice for the weekend for . . . well, for. That's what a sports car is supposed to do, and the 8 does it great, and I mean that.

I was really impressed with the trunk space until I added the spare tire... now it's just okay.... I guess if I ever really need the space I'll just take the tire out.... still the opening is a bit small, tried to put a normal size suitcase in there... wouldn't fit through the opening but it fit great in the back seat!!!!! To be honest the more trunk space I have the more garbage I haul around in there... I had EVERYTHING in my last car including a lawn chair!!! no need for carrying all that junk, now I just carry car care products!!!
