Saturday is the day ! I'm shopping for a used RX-8 tomorrow. Hopefully my next post will be about my RX-8 !!
Has anyone noticed that dealers aren't always honest on autotrader ? Example: I find a RX-8 on autotrader. It says 21,000 miles and dealer is asking $18,900. Then I go to the dealers website and find the same car (same stock number and everything) and it is advertised with 36,000 miles and they are asking $21,000. This could be a very frustrating search tomorrow !!

Hope you can find one. They are pretty rare on dealer lots and even rarer in top condition. I wish you the best. It's fun searching for a car but frustrating to deal with a salesman if he's a big _____!

One thing I've learned about shopping on the internet for cars, just like you said, they aren't completely honest. Don't make decisions based on what you see on the net, get in an e-mail from a salesperson, or whatever.....
Go check it out in person and make your decisions based on that.
Keep in mind too, that the "trained" mazda salespeeps don't know **** about the RX-8. So don't expect a salesguy on the GM lot or the Acura lot to be able to give you any reliable info.
Have you checked on buying a leftover 06? I don't know how many are left out there, but I bought my 04 in March 05 and got $10K off the sticker (paid 21 for a 31 msrp). I didn't think I could afford a new one, but I got my Rex at less than the used one were priced. It's worth some time to check it out. If you're this far in, you've probably done that!!

BIG LAWSUIT THERE!!!! If you get to the dealer and they charge you the higher price . . they get SHUT DOWN by the DMV. HIGHLY ILLEGAL!!!! A car MAY NOT be advertised for one price then a customer charged another price. BELIEVE ME . . if you print the ad, take it in, and they do not have an addendem posted, in a public place, from the publisher of the magazine/newspaper. . . you get the advertised price. Of course you need to make sure it is the same car as what is in the ad. ( this is why autotrader makes dealers ad their 'stock #' now. )
I'm definatly going to the dealerships to see / test drive any 8 I'm considering buying. There are actually quite a few '04's in the Tampa bay area right now. I'm thinking lease returns. I've taken the VIN's off auto trader and called them in to Mazda to see if any recall work still needed to be done. Most still had at least 1 or 2 recalls open. I also called my local Mazda dealership to see how soon I could get the recalls done should I buy one although I plan on making an offer on one that has had all recalls completed.
To the guy who asked what year I was looking for, an '04/'05/'06. but I can't buy from a private seller. It is a stipulation in my loan.
I got one! It's a 2004 with 34,000 miles. Velocity red with GT package, black leather. The oringinal owner was the service manager of the dealership I bought it from. One question though. The dealership offered me a 3 year 36,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty extention on the car for $1,800. Is this a decent price for this added warranty ? I told him I needed to think about it for a few days.
very nice man, congrats and welcome. just a heads up i've heard the "last owner was a worker here" story before, i would take it with a grain of salt.
as for the warranty i agree with darkbrew, it's already 5 year/ 60k til 2009 on your 2004 model, just keep the 1800 and pay your insurance and gas with it.

This info ould have saved me $1400 this past October when I purchased extended warranty for a used 2004 Rx-8. And Congrats Sportsrider on your car.
Great looking car. Congrats. When I bought mine the red was tempting, but I had driven a red one for about 4 years (an eclipse, not an 8) - got the yellow!!
Yours looks clean and loved in it's previous life!!

Reason: confusing
Thanks for all the compliments on the 8. Sounds like most all agree that the extended service plan is not worth the money. I don't think I'm going to get it. Thanks again to all !
