Is there alot of maintenance for this car? Is it worth it?

Is there alot of maintenance for this car? Example: I heard that you have to wait 2-5 minutes after you start the car or else it will flood and you would have to bring it to a Mazda dealer (since nobody knows how to work on this rotary engine) and get it fixed...(plus dealers are expensive to fix cars i think) ...I also heard you have to change the oil every 1,000 miles and that you have to rev the car to 3,000 rpm's right before you turn it off .... Are there any other things that I have to worry about? Also.....is it worth it? haha... Thanks again..

Depends on what you consider "alot"...
Example: I heard that you have to wait 2-5 minutes after you start the car or else it will flood and you would have to bring it to a Mazda dealer (since nobody knows how to work on this rotary engine) and get it fixed...
You have to wait 2-5 minutes after you start the car *to turn it off*. That is, you can't shut the engine off cold, you have to let it warm up first. That doesn't mean you can't *drive* it for 2-5 minutes. Minor nuisance.
I also heard you have to change the oil every 1,000 miles
Wow, you hear some funny things. You have to *check* the oil frequently, you don't have to change it more frequently than any other car. The rotary burns oil a little faster than piston engines, so expect to add an extra quart between oil changes. I've had old cars that went through more than that. No big deal, you just have to remember to check the oil from time to time.
and that you have to rev the car to 3,000 rpm's right before you turn it off ....
It's a good idea, although maybe not strictly necessary. You'll soon get so in the habit of the quick rev-shutoff thing that you'll be doing it in other cars too.
Are there any other things that I have to worry about? Also.....is it worth it? haha... Thanks again..
I think it's completely worth it.

Actually not in the owner's manual. It's in supplement information fold-outs and the tabbed rollo-guide thing. Let me go check.

Ok let me quote from the Mazda RX-8 Driver's Guide:

"Add only non-synthetic 5W-20 engine oil with SL or ILSAC on the container label. For added safety, an engine oil level warning light on the instrument panel with indicate low engine oil level"

Its under the title "Fill it up, and check the oil too."

You're probably right, I know nothing about the car compared to you guys.

I bought the car used with 3660 miles on it, so the previous owner had the Driver's Guide packed up in with the owners manual and the tabbed guide in the neoprene jacket.

okay, that's enough. If you don't have anything nice to say, then don't post. Swoope, whether you like the guy or not, stop with the nasty posts.
