I have a hard time believing it is as bad as you say... (of course, you have driven an auto, not me ) I just may have to go to my dealer and give one a whirl myself. Last time I was there they had a nice yellow auto. Hopefully its' still there.

Go back and hold the DSC botton down for about 5 or 6 seconds, till you see two new symbols appear on the guages. Then drive. We all have our different reasons for wanting the auto.

Even in the Manual models the car will get beat by about 90% of the cars on the road in a straight line. When you are in the curves thats when this car will seperate its self from the others.

I've taken my auto to the road course and have it hit 132mph in the straights. Guess what? I'm fine with it being slow. I have fun in it.

I'm more than happy with with this car. I like the choice of auto, then paddles, and stick. WOW 3 choices, nice. If I'm stuck in 2hr traffic jams, thank GOD I'm in an auto.

If you want something to beat every one on the street in, then get something else, either model won't do it.

Cool

True words mmmdowning. I have AT Sport and it is fun to drive and suits my needs (90% is highway driving). Other family members also wanted to drive the car hence the AT was the only option.

The RX-8 is not a race car. If you want to tromp the rest of the world you need to look elsewhere. The RX-8 is a good all-arounder that has unique points.

Personnally, I have 3 cars...each one is strong in one way or another but none is great in all areas. I drive the one that fits my mood. LOL

i've driven an auto. i thought it was ok. i've driven the 6mt as well, and thought it was absolutely awesome. i didn't think the auto was that bad, the only annoying part is the manumatic that doesn't kick down as often as i wanted it to

you had a 12a-powered ae86 for reals?

News Flash: People buy cars for different reasons!

I could have bought an MT, there were certainly many more of those to choose from. I picked the AT because that is what worked best for my situation.

i test drove an auto as well when I was originally looking. The only thing that bugged me about it was second gear though I think it may have been that particular car.

Second didnt feel right. There was no get up and go on the auto like there was on the manual. Like I said, it may have been that particular car, but who knows.

To each their own. I almost bought an auto myself but I couldnt justify it when the manual is only 1500 more.

Look I didn't say you were stupid. You didn't state if you took the DSC or TSC off. So thats why I stated it. We all have our reasons for buying what we bought.

But to bash us like this is uncalled for. I also stated that 90% of the auto's will beat both cars. I didn't care, I love the rotary. I've owned 2 pryer, '84 and '89 both stick. I wanted auto. I drive for my pleasure and not to see who I can beat. Look at my tag FUNRX8 I got it for fun.

As far as being fast I have a '73 Corvette that I run at the track and shows. 1.1g's in turns and just at 700hp. I totally restored this car for road racing from the ground up. This is my sports car for specific needs.

The RX8 is a great car Auto or Manual. The traffic I deal with in Nortern VA is hell on a manual so I wanted the ease of having an auto. Also I have a 3 1/2 yr old who requires my attention while I drive, it is easier in an auto than in a manual.

So my needs are different.

And to say this car is junk. Well then I think you missed the whole point on the existence of this car. To have fun and to be a drivers car.

C'mon...I know how it is...you guys got the auto and have to defend it. The only place I saw low power RX8 test results it showed 9 sec 0-60 times....that is real slow...there are a bunch of SUV's that will dust it. My 86 Corolla GTS will smoke it....My point is...the 6 speed is so much faster, and with the same equipment is barely more money. Why would you really choose it over the 6 speed? If your buying a sports car or sporty car whatever you want to call it....why?

My wife...even she said it was junk...she drives a 94 Corolla wagon 5 speed. Sorry if I offend anybody....really. I hated all the whining that the 6 speed RX8 was slower than competitors...it at least was competitive...but the auto isn't even in the same class.

It aint' right...it ain't right. Once again...sorry if I offend you auto guys...you have reasons...lost a leg or whatever...lot's of traffic...whatever.

if you want a drag car go buy a camaro.

and youre wife is an idiot if she thinks an 8 is junk compared to her corolla. i used to own a 93 corolla sedan and the only thing it has over the 8 is better gas milesage.

I feel worse for you actually... you're thinking that just because it's a Manual RX-8, that makes it a speedy "sports" car. My auto G35 could beat the Manual RX-8 without hesitation. And yes I own an AT RX-8, an auto G35, and a standard S2000... They are all good cars.

Okay first off peeps, why are you arguing amongst each other. We all own the SAME car. Yes the auto is rated at 197 hp, so of course it's going to be slower then the 6 speed manual which is rated at 238 hp. I had the chance to drive the auto, and it seems to lag in 1st gear off the line, but it has it's get up and go, but it was still a really fun car to drive, and the people looking on was great. In the end though I picked up a 6 speed manual and it's a good bit faster then the auto, so I'm happy with my decision. But to call people stupid for buying an Auto RX-8 is just uncalled for. Also remember you can't spell stupid with out u in it, so shut up and grow up and don't bash people for the decisions they made.

This is an absurd statement. Unless 90% of the cars in Spotsylvania, Virginia are things like 350Z's, Vettes, G35's, Porsche's, EVO's, STi's etc. Sometimes people on these boards seem to be living in sports car fantasy lands, where the world is populated only by fast cars. It's a distortion of reality when 6 seconds from 0-60 is slow. Most people drive things like Camry's or Passats - if not pickups and SUV's. The RX8 is quick.

Without hestitation? I doubt that - with a 5000 rpm clutch drop and a skillful driver I think the RX8 would at least be close.

Wow, Noah, you stole my posts.

Completely agree with both, but you were probably too generous on the last post.

This entire thread is pretty insulting to A/T owners. As someone else said, people buy cars for different reasons, and to rag on the car because you don't like it is pretty crappy.

And a side note- if it's 40 degrees outside, you don't NEED the seat heaters, so that's why they didn't heat much. Try it when it's under freezing. I guarantee you'll feel it then.

I didn't ever single one person out and insult them...I have apologized many times...Sorry if the auto owners are so uptight about their cars. I guess some people just got the RX8 for style, and image...and that's their perogative. I can also voice my opinion. And that guy directly insulting my wife....I didn't even start flaming him. So people....RELAX!!!

I bet if I met all you guys in person, we'd get along fine...so can we stop arguing? I said I was sorry many times....

Road and Track test of the MANUAL G35 "....allowing the heavier G35 Sport Coupe to run to 60 mph in a scant 6.1 seconds."

Guess you may want to try, without hesitation, the manual 8 for yourself... you ARE missing useful power you know. :D

Why was this thread started in the first place?

The RX is a snazy car no matter what transmission it has. Everyone has their own needs and reasons for buying it.

A stick would not work for me because of a family thing, an AT won't work for someone else because they want the fastest RX model out there, etc.

Other cars out there would pulpitize (is that a word?) an RX in a race, the RX would beat the rest...that's racing...that is why they have classes in real racing. The RX is 90 cid...some motorcycles have bigger engines than that. No sense in comparing a RX to a 3.5L 350Z...but look at the price also.

But for the money the RX is a hoot.

Road and Track also test a Manual Mazda RX-8 and the 0-60 time is 5.9 seconds. If you want any other stats just let me know and I'll be happy to provide you with what I have in the Road & Track RX-8 issue
