Thanks, I appreciate it.

With the 2004, I'm now just two responses short of being able to include it in next month's results. If you signed up but haven't yet responded, please do so.

If you haven't signed up, please consider it. I'd like to have a really good sample size of RX-8s because so many people are wound up about the car's reliability.

Currently just three owners short of getting started with the 2005. I'd like to start with it this month.

For the details, and to sign up to help:

Both the 2004 and 2005 are now included in the main survey. But the sample sizes remain marginal, so additional participants would be very helpful.

Next results in February.

Update in a few weeks. 17 responses so far for the 2004. Unless this gets to 25, there will be an asterisk on the result.

Data collection on the 2005 started too recently to be included in these results. Maybe in the next set, in May.

More participants would be very helpful.

That update will happen next Wednesday. No major news on the RX-8 front. Which is actually good news. Since news would be a skyrocketing repair rate...

Looking forward, I'd very much like to get rid of that asterisk (there will be one again) and add additional model years. It's going to be tough with the 2006 and 2007, since so few were sold. So we really need these few to step up. It can be done.

For the details, and to help make better reliability info on these cars happen:

What happens when you don't have repairs?

Many of us don't. Just preventative maintence like oil changes.

If there are no repairs, you simply report an approximate odometer reading the first month you participate then at the end of every quarter. The entire process takes just seconds, literally.

The form looks like this:

http://www.truedelta.com/readings.php

People without any problems are just as important as those with them for getting an accurate result.

Next update in May. Hopefully the 2005 will be included along with the 2004, but it's going to be tight. Very much need more participants.

Voluntary response bias?

Its really a good idea to include though, could help many consumers.

If I was asking about past repairs, there would likely be such bias in the responses.

But people sign up, and then report repairs that happen afterwards. The point of this is to minimize bias.

The 2004 will be in the May results. It doesn't look like there will be enough responses to also include the 2005, but it could still happen.

If you've signed up to participate but haven't yet responded to the survey (via a link in the email you received), please do. And if you haven't signed up yet, I hope you'll consider doing so. I'd really like to have these results in May.

Results for only the 2004 so far. Just 19 responses, so the result is asterisked for insufficient sample size.

Even so, it's clear that the actual repair rate is lower than anyone reading this board would expect, about 36 successful repair trips per 100 cars per year.

I'd like to get rid of that asterisk and provide results for additional model years.

Just need more owners to sign up and participate.

Next update in August. Hoping to have a full result for the 2004 and also include the 2005. More recent model years possible in future updates--but this depends on how many owners sign up and participate.

To help us provide better information on the RX-8:

Four responses short of a full result for the 2004, and six short of a result for the 2005.

I'd also like to include other model years in the survey.

Need your help to make it happen.

great idea... BUT, your reliability stats are useless without setting up a control group- ie categorizing people into 2 groups: mod vs. bone stock.

if the # of issues between both groups are identical, then that would indicate a manufacturer reliability issue. if one group tips the scales over the other then, well, we would know what the cause of it is.

Participants are asked broad questions about the extent of their mods. If it proves necessary to separate out cars with substantial mods, this can be done.

The real problem is getting enough participants. We'll have barely enough for the 2004 this time around, not enough for the other years.

To help get your year included:

Updated results have been posted. Both the 2004 and 2005 appear to have repair rates close to the average, maybe a bit better than average.

The sample size for the 2005 is very small, and that for the 2004 fell a single response short of the minimum. So both are asterisked, and only visible to members on the site.

I'd like to get rid of those asterisks and include additional model years. Need more participants to help make this happen.

Next set of results in November. With more participants we could provide more precise information on the RX-8.

With another week in this month's survey, we're two responses short of a full result for the 2004. So it's going to be close.

If you've signed up to participate, but haven't yet responded, please do. And if you haven't yet signed up, please consider it.

There's a lot of misinformation about RX-8 reliability out there. Help us counteract this with real data.

Got those responses--thanks, guys.

Mazda RX-8 repair rates, in terms of successful repair trips per 100 vehicles per year:

2004: 96, about average

2005: 51, better than average, but very small sample size

Additional participants would be very helpful for all years.

Thanks, guys. I've been wanting to check out a 2009 myself. Not the best time for that in Detroit, though.

This month's survey is the last before the February results. Sample sizes have been marginal for the RX-8, so additional participants would be very helpful.
