starter problem

My car wouldn't start up today
It was clutch problem...starter was all cracked
service guy told me that I shifted too hard
yes, It was my first menual car, but is it possible to break starter in 1600 miles? i really don't mind since they will fix it for free. however I'm little suspicious, because when I got this car It alrealdy had 136 miles.
BTW
could you guys tell me how to drive stick wothout cracking starter?

I cant imagine how you'd crack a starter (other than if the flywheel/clutch internals completely disintegrated and flew apart) by bad shifting....

I think the service guy is giving you a line...

Unless something is happening whereby the starter gear isn't disengaging from the flywheel properly or something like that (or your hitting the starter with the engine already running, etc..)

Odd..

We've already covered that here: https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...threadid=27441 . Apparently you aren't the only person experiencing spontaneous disintegration. It seems to be going around. I still say it's part of the CMDs and it is a terrorist plot but I will leave that up to the Mazda investigators. I hear that they have ways of making terrorists talk...

c'mon guys
I'm not a troll and I'm dead serious!!
maybe service guy didn't say starter
I could not understand some difficult words, because of my poor English skill
I forgot what it was, but it was somthing to do with hard shifting
When I pushed clutch hard in that morning (last friday), clutch made "pop" sound.
After that car wouldn't start up.
could you guys tell me what it was?
I'm sorry about this stupid question, but seriously how can I prevent this?

Just in case, you guys don't believe me. I own Black 6MT Rx-8 GT with spare tire Rotary appearance pkg, and rear spoiler. I bought this car 3 month ago, and It has 1600 miles so far. I love this car!

This is the second time I've read on this forum of someone's clutch breaking into pieces and damaging the clutch. Could this be related to the problem with some of the cars having the throw-out bearing losening and start backing out ? I remember some of the guys had this problem but corrected this before any serious damages were done.

You know this, but you don't know what your service guy said?!
:p

Seriously though, I know I test drove a black one pretty rough. I definitely went over 6k rpms. The break-in is just too delicate. WHATEVER your problem... the rough shifting may not be attributed to you, rather whomever put those 136 miles on it.

I'm sorry! I did not mean to make fun of you, and it is obvious that you are not a troll. No troll would make this up! Exploding starter motors are not a problem that the average soul has.

I could see it cracking if you tried to start the car with the clutch out and the car in gear. If the engine started bucking it is very theoretically possible that the load no-load on the starter motor could cause the total desctruction of the starter motor. However, I have dragged many cars with their starter motors and never had a problem like that. If the starter motor on your car split its case, you have a VERY unusual condition and I honestly have no real idea what could have happened. The only other thing that I could see is that the pinion gear failed to retract which allowed the engine o spin the starter at too high RPMs. That is totally impossible. A pinion gear could never do that. The only other possibility is a mis-manufactured starter motor, which is my favorite idea. If that is the case then just get the new starter motor, and it should work fine. Let the dealer fix it, and I am sure that it will be fine. All the best - H
