stalling and hard start

I'm the first to say I am not tech savy, but am having a problem. My 2004 RX8 with 51,00 has been stalling unexpected. It generally happens when I slow down and stop at a light. I took it in to the dealer who told me they cleaned out the plugs, but couldn't duplicate the condition. After it stalls, I have been following the procedure in the manuel (depress the accel and crank for 7-8 seconds) and wait 10 -20 minutes, I generally can get it restarted. Any suggestions on what I should be doing are greatly appreciated. I am the original owner, have had the car dealer serviced and feel like the dealer doesn't have a clue.

OK, I'll bite.

It would be useful to know whether your car is a manual or an automatic. Year could also be useful. Remember when posting questions to describe symptoms and features of your car as specifically as possible to help whoever answers to give you the best possible advice.

Searching. At the top of the screen is a search box. It is often best to enter search terms like "stalling" into the search box and see if anything comes up. In the case of that term or some like it, many threads will.

Answer: You only need to do the de-flood procedure for stalling if the car is COLD. In the case of driving and having the car stall at a light, the car is almost certainly warm. You can restart it normally by just turning the key and getting the engine going again. You can drive immediately.

The car stalling at a stop light from running could be any number of things from bad spark plugs, a dirty Mass Air Flow sensor, one or more malfuntioning coils, loose or detached spark plug wire or wires, damaged spark plug wires, damaged intake manifold, sticking shutter valve in the intake, or most seriously poor compression from damaged rotor seals requiring a complete rebuild of your engine.

It is impossible to make any determination of what is actually wrong with your car from the information provided. It is doubtful that you will be able to do the testing or analysis necessary to figure out what is wrong with your car having no technical skill. I would suggest taking it to another dealer and asking them to run through it carefully. I am assuming that you have driven it for all 51,000 miles and that this is a new condition for you. Telling you that they cleaned the plugs and can't reprodcue the problem is not an acceptable answer. There are any number of the above problems that will not set a Check Engine Light and cause stalling. Get someone to go through it carefully. Also search some of the threads, and you will find lots of great information on the above problems.

Best of luck .

Don't feel bad.. I'm in the same boat. My 05 RX8 just clicked over 53K and I'm starting to have similar issues. It's very hard starting, sometimes take over 10-15 seconds to start, and just the other day it stalled on me sitting at a light. I'm taking it back to the dealer for a compression test, however I have a feeling its not going to be good.
