Stage 4 clutch

Got a question? If i buy a stage 4 clutch is the stock flywheel compatable with it or do i need to buy a new flywheel too? You guys have prolly already discussed this but i would greatly appreciate your help......Thanks

You can use the same flywheel... But let me ask you something. What power levels do you have right now? What are your goals? A stage 4 clutch is pretty much a race only clutch. You wouldn't really want to be using that on the street.

The stock clutch is pretty good. Unless you are pushing more than 300 whp, a stage one should be fine.

Yeah, I'm going to go out on a limb here and say you and your Rx8 have no use for a Stage 4 clutch. Stage 4 handles stratospheric amounts of torque in race applications. You have 160 ft-lb on the street. As cool as it would be to tell everyone you have one, it's a complete waste of money. Unless of course, you're not telling us somthing about your 8.

well i dont have 300 whp but i have roughly around 235whp, i havent had it dynoed yet but i plan on it. so i would be ok with a stage 1 clutch unless i go over 300whp then i would prolly want to jump to a stage 2?? i am a little new on the tranny kind of stuff, i am almost finished with everything i could do to the engine besides a turbo and i just want to know how to get the power to the wheels better??? THANKS GUYS

I had a stage 4 in my first gen. [bridge ported + shitloads of mods] and I LOVED it. You could barely tap the clutch pedal and that would be sufficient to shift. Other people had trouble driving it but even on the street I couldnt get enough.

Getting too good a clutch only translates the amount of stress to other places of the drivetrain such as transmission mounts, etc. Cruising would really suck with a stage 4 I think.

If for daily driving, and you want to kill your leg. Go ahead for a Stage 4 (or whatever the best that put 1000% better clamping force) clutch on.

Racing ok. Cuz not like you'll race more than an hour.

normal driving, around 55% is fine.

Enough to overturn the car if you have enough power and traction...

Mods? I doubt you have that much. If you have all the bolt ons, then you will have upwards of 220, maybe breaking 230... 235 sounds a bit high for NA though.

Unless you have some form of FI/Nitrous you don't have 235 whp right now. Even if you did no way do you need a stage 4 clutch. I have a Centerforce unit, and it is rated at 425 lb.-ft. of tq. which the RX8 won't get to in any of our lifetimes.
