Spare wheel and tire
Looking for a spare wheel/tire.
Not a fan of the inflation device idea. A tire that can be repaired could be permanently damaged by using it even with the inflation device.
I am looking for a spare wheel , the modern smaller in size for those flat tire situations.
Anyone gotten one ? Which one should I go after.

I guess no one in here uses a spare tire.
I intend on using one. The inflation device is nonsense to me.
Compels driver to ride on an already damaged tire, so instead of a repair, a new tire could be inevitable.

You gonna eat that?

They were an option on new 8's, so there are not a lot of them around.

You can pick up a standard "donut" style spare for next to nothing from a wrecking yard or Craigslist. I just bought my RX, but plan on getting a spare for it, I don't like depending on being able to repair a flat, sometimes the damage is too severe, like a ripped sidewall, or extra large puncture.
I've had at least three flats in the last ten years. (Not just slow leakers, but tires that were became unusable when I was out on the road.) Two might have been repairable, but one had a rip in the sidewall where it had distorted and become pinched by the rim when I hit a sewer with a missing cover. The sewer opening was under a couple of inches of water, so I didn't see it at all, and BAM! Fortunately I had both a spare and necessary equipment each time.
I try not to get complacent about being able to change a tire in an emergency, doing so can make the difference between being on my way in fifteen minutes and waiting hours for someone to help me, or having to walk a long distance for help.

I have the OEM spare tire and the rack that goes in a 2005 rx8 that takes up 50% of your space. I took it out of my 2005 to put a couple of sub-woofers in its place. I also have the emergency tire kit that i left in the trunk, just in case for long trips. I also have 4 tires of the OEM rims that are in my shed. If i get a flat, I just call who ever i know that is close to my house and they will bring it to me.
I can take pictures of the OEM spare tire and mount tomorrow if you want. Make me an offer +shipping and its yours.
Shipping would be from Ohio if you want to take a look in to it. I can weigh everything in the next day or two if your interested.

Hi Hootyhoo.
Yes, I am interested. Let me see a couple pics.
I could go to the junk yard but if this one is made to fit, better than going over to look for bolt patterns.
I'd rather get a spare. Once going to work got a flat tire. Was en route to work. The low pressure lamp lit on. But I did not feel any pull, and since I had no spare, kept driving. Not far from work.
Got to work. At time to leave, called a tow truck. I was told tirre was gone, Puncture on sidewall plus driving on low tire did it.
Thing is, had I had a spare, I would had changed it at first sign That could had saved tire.
Even if not, I could had driven the car on the spare, park it at home, go to Costco or shop for a good price on a matching tire and move on.
Instead I had to go to a tire shop. Tow truck took me there. Tire shop claimed it did not have my tire ( Michelin) in stock. Getting one special order right away was going to cost ludicrous amounts of $$$
So I settled for a used tire, wrong size but got me on the road.
Later on I got a tire from Costco. But it was a hassle.
Now, this happened in town, my town. Imagine going through this away from home. I mean traveling somewhere.
Please send me a pic, via PM is you prefer.
Thanks.

I see Mazda 3 spare tires and wheels. Go for a lot less than RX8s. Any idea about matching bolt pattern and mounting in on an RX8 ?

I got my car with the kit. I didn't care about trunk space or I would have bought a bigger car. I do care about getting a flat in the wee hours of the night and have to wait for AAA or who ever to come and rescue me when I can change the damn tire in 10 minutes. That inflation kit is a joke. The light Hybrid model of the Lacrosse comes with an inflation kit and was one of the reasons why I opted for the V6 over the 4 cylinder hybrid. Getting stranded for a flat tire is just not worth it IMO.
