sooo rx8 year?
sooo i have decided i really want the rx8 even tho i cant really afford the cost of a new one...
but i was thinking.. what year would be best to go with.
and i am definitely getting a GT
I was thinking about just saving the most money and just getting an 04 but after seeing some of the projector cut offs it makes me want to get a newer model.
What ya guys think.. what year should i go with (used) to get the most bang for my buck?
oh and PS I'm not just some (hop on the wagon rx8 guy) i have wanted one since the 04's came out i just could never really afford one in my budget until now. Plus i used to have an FC so i know some what about the rotary.
-ICEY?

I will warn you about the GT: I'm not tall at 5'11 but I think the headroom with the moonroof is unacceptable.
Because of that I'm either going to save a lot of $$ by going with a used 06-08 sport, or waiting a bit longer and either special ordering an 09 GT with no moonroof or getting an R3.

I'm 5'10" with headroom to spare. Yes it would be the same on a touring, as I have one. TYhe moonroof is availabel on both models and cuts abotu and inch and a half into the headroom.

I fiddled with seat settings in the two GT's I sat in and a Touring (all that had the moonroof) and the only to provide adequate headroom was to tilt the seat back (which is not the ideal driving position for the track).

No offense to the topic starter, but it seems like we are getting the same question once or twice a week, and we end up giving the same old answers including the expected "Search noob!" response.
Is anyone aware of an existing thread that might be a good one to direct potential owners to, that gives some advice towards used RX8 buying advice?
But to be honest icey, my best advice is to spend a week here reading 100 threads, especially the ones stickied at the top of each forum, and do a thorough research job rather than get a quick and dirty summary here.

haha yeah i understand how you feel... i have been searching on this forum for about 2 weeks now and have found plenty of stuff...
but because the forum is so large its hard to find exactly what your looking for.
i just like to have an open discussion about things.. and because new info is being found out about the rx8 everyday pretty much its better just to re ask and get updated.
maybe there should be a whole section called "noob questions- The upcoming buyers guide" or something lol

Because honestly............that info is probably spread out over dozens of threads, and I'm not aware of one that stands out chock full 'o' information.
And while the 1,000,000th "Why does my 8 get crappy MPG?" thread may be annoying........something along the lines of a "noob questions" thread dealing with buying advice, considering it is a significant investment, might be a good idea.

In general, one should avoid '04s because they were the first model year...avoid the first year of anything. But that's greeted by posts from '04 owners who had little trouble.
'06 or later is good to consider because by then they all came with improvements like the bigger starter and battery, improved sun visor, and condensor rock screen. On the other hand...Consumer Reports reliability for '06 model year had moved up to "average," but that's based on '05s. '07 rating (based on '06s) was down again. I've got an '06 which has given zero trouble.
On how tall you can be and fit... It's not just height. It's body proportions. There are threads scattered about on that topic. There are people well over six feet who fit fine, even with a sun roof. There are shorter people who don't fit. This is something that people have to try for themselves.
Yeah - one could just bite the bullet and read hundreds of posts. And hope that does not drive one insane. Personally, I did my research by reading the blurbs in Motor Trend, Car and Driver, and Consumers Reports "Every car in the world" issues, plus googling for other reviews. Then driving one.
After the test drive, I didn't care if the anti-Wankel, anti-Mazda crowd was right. I needed one!
FWIW, the antis were wrong. And, mercifully for my mental health, I discovered rx8Club *after* I brought Zoomy home.

For those who say "05 or newer", I ask, why?
In terms of a manual, as long as the recalls have been performed on an 04, they are no less reliable than an 05 or newer.
If you're getting an auto, 06 or newer due to the increased horsepower, 6 ports instead of 4, and increased reliability.
Manual, any year will do.
