single vs dual
im looking to buy an exhaust im looking at daul exhaust and single exhaust. which one do you say works better with the rx8. before i get bashed on not "SEARCHING" i did some research n found this qoute on newbies modding thread. Is this trying to say single exhaust could possibly be a better option?
"The single tip catbacks tend to slightly edge out the dual tip catbacks on the dyno, usually because the single tip catbacks streamline the exhaust flow a bit better, creating a bit less pressure buildup."
Thanks
P.S. any suggestion on singl or dual exhaust to look at would be great. I do not like the drone on the Agency Power.

my .02c
Im a farcry from an expert but I have a custom single most here would say is pathetic lol. However I am quite pleased with it. I know for sure there are some weight savings but nothing I can notice.
I cant say for sure there is a power increase on the particular setup I have but none the less it sounds awesome and by my butt dyno it feels slightly more powerful than stock.
I just wish they made a custom bumper to make the single look a little better. I was thinking of going the JIC magic route but I am to afraid to cut up my bumper
My exhaust is similar to the corksport model listed for $379 but was quite a bit less and has a slightly bigger can and a deeper tone.
I got it fabbed up at the local muffler shop for about $100 + the cost of the muffler which was about $100

The OEM exhaust weighs around 45 lbs more or less, and most aftermarket duals are around that same weight more or less. Unless you get some really pricey titanium exhaust.
Most singles weigh around 15-20 lbs depending which one you get...
I have a RR single and personally I think they sound great. They are loud though, I think they look better than dual as well.
Here's a video on youtube of a RR single.
In the end it's about preference, how much you're willing to spend, and what sound you like best. If you're a hardcore racer I think single wins hands down due to weight savings and the slight performance edge. I think it's safe to argue that a single provides more flow and less obstructions too.

Curious what exhaust you have? A dual that weighs 15 lbs wow...

Lol that's my vid!
But anyways yeah pretty much weight savings is all you get. Also that race roots I had was kinda too loud for me. There's also a drone inside the cabin during cruise rpms. I have the hks legamax now which is a dual. I like the looks of a dual exit better. It makes it more symmetrical. Comes down to your personal preference

no drone with my RR single. what midpipe were you running. it's definitely loud.

Stock cat. Ehhh my ears were probably sensitive and wasn't used to it.. After all, i WAS rocking a racing beat exhaust before the RR which was a conservative old man exhaust (sound wise) lol.

This car is also just loud at ~4k rpm with a midpipe but I guess the bhr pipe quiets/smooths it a bit more than others. I have an agency power midpipe which is one of the worst as far as the packing melting/burning away.
OP if you don't mind a very loud exhaust go with a single. I am honestly surprised I have never been pulled over with how loud it is but cops out here just don't seem to care.

i had to modify my AP midpipe because it just sounded like crap at 3.5k and 4.5k. It got really buzzy

There is at least one person on here who has covered up the shroud when they went to a single exhaust. I think they may have fabricated it themselves though so that might be your only option.

that's basically what I did. I removed the user resonator and replaced it with a spintech muffler. sounds amazing but it did take a bit of power off the top end. if I had to do it again I would have went with a resonator like you mentioned. I don't mind it loud I just hated the nasty unturned sound it made. now it sounds sexy and refined while still be loud.

Did you mean you replaced the rear resonator, not user? Assuming an autocorrect there. I wasn't sure if replacing only one resonator would have a huge impact or not. Hopefully it does and I can fix this midpipe because that is my only issue with it. I don't mind being loud but it sounds terrible at 3.5-4.5k rpm and that is where I am going to be at in traffic mostly.

yea autocorrect owned me. I replaced the first resonator. it made a huge difference in tone. it's not as loud as it was before but it's still loud. it sounds like you know what I mean about the annoying soot it has between certain rpms. changing the first resonator did the trick for me. hopefully you will have the same luck since you're using an actual resonator. the spintech muffler did wonders on my setup.
