Thumbs down Sick and tired of speed bumps

Every time I go in or out of my neighborhood I have to go over 7 sets of speed bumps. It is absolutly ridiculis, I live in a town house complex that is'nt very big. Even if you were to take out the "***** my suspension up" bumps out there is no way someone could go faster than 15 mph before having to slam on the brakes. I went to the manager (who by the way is over 85 years old) to complain and the only thing he told me was I would have to go to the next board meeting and bring up the topic for a vote. I plan on going next month but i do't have high hopes. Everyone on the "board" has gray hair Sorry for the rant I had to get it off my chest

At least those bumps arent big enough for you to smack you exhaust on. I have huge speed bumps around my neighborhood in Vancouver, and have hit my exhaust on it multiple times with a passenger or two in the car. I'm not even lowered.

How long are the bumps?

Can you at least ride the bump on one side of the car?

Around me there is a BIG speed bump thats on this road i need to pass through if i wanna go to the local store. You cant go around it because of a blind spot. You just have to suck it up and go over it.

Well there is about 18 inches of space between the bump and the curb.

I basically hug as CLOSE to the curb as possible without actually hitting the curb and let the left side of the car go over the curb.

My car is really low (5 inches from ground to front lip) and i dont rub.

Another thing is if you really have to go over the bump, get up to it slow and go over it really slow. If you go 80mph and dive towards the bump, your nose will dive in and you're gonna rub the bump like crazy.

THis the first time I heard of speed bump being a problem for rx8.

Wide gradual speed bumps, maybe 30 mph.

Sharp pointy speed bumps, hear your tires hit type, little bit slower so as not to skip the cd player. But even if not, how is that supposed to mess up suspension I think its unlikley.

Try to go over it at an angle, so both front tires don't hit it at the same time.

But you shoudn't be going faster than 10-12mph in a driveway anyway.

I go over the reallly slow, and if there is a car behind me I stop on them and take an unnecessarily long time so people will get pissed off. And the neighborhood is just owned by old people. There are younger people that live there as well, but they all have SUVs and what not

Shouldn't matter how many gray haired folks are on the board, if there is an excessive amount of speedbumps, then you probably have a large number of people of all ages who think it is excessive also. Find them. Go to the next meeting with them. In a perfect world they should listen to the homeowners.

In a old apartment complex I lived in there was talk of adding a ton of speed bumps. We had a fireman that lived in the complex that brought his fire chief in to a meeting and argued the fact that if there was a fire, the fire department would take longer to respond to due to driving over a ton of speed bumps. The complex added some of the speed humps(the ones you can go over without completely stopping) instead of the speed bumps they wanted to install about every 20 yards.

If I have to go into the city and I want to drive my 8 then its all avenues , where I don't have to worry about them..... I do have a Civic as a DD and that helps alot............. I could be picky about where I drive...........

There are countless amount of potholes in NYC, pretty much "every fuxking where", So there is not much speed bumps, cuz these potholes will make you slow down every 100-200 feet.

So who should I report this to ? 311? I called and they said ok we'll take care of it, then of course nothing ever happens.

Pay so much taxes for WHAT ... to bail more companies out? for war of iraq ?

heh, the area where i live had speedbumps setup as well. Took one winter to get them removed because the allotment's plow trucks broke 2 plows when they hit the speedbumps with their plows. Snow was deeper than the bumps and the drivers didn't know where they were located. jacked up plows, jacked up + speedbumps = tons more money that the community would have to pay to maintain future speedbumps (and more plow fronts). so they got rid of them. Now they just post threatening signs saying "if people dont slow down we will reinstate the speedbumps" ROFL ya right. Zoom Zoom!

of course, you could live in texas and deal with these speedbumps...

lol

move.

They are not going to take the speed bumps out just because you have an issue with it. I guarantee if you bring it up at the next meeting, all of the older people that have nothing better to do than sit around and b!tch all day will say that it "encourages people to speed" through the neighborhood without them.
