Finally a civic owner realizes the truth's about the RX8.

I liked this line "Speaking of exhaust systems, once you have a Borla cat-back on an RX-8 nothing on a Civic will ever be as fun or as rewarding."

Borla FTW!!

I tried to buy an SI.
But my RX8 was a few thousand dollars less.

I love going to meets, and when I see an SI I say "ya, I really wanted the SI, but I had to settle for the RX8 cuz it was less expensive" Then you watch them cry when they realize they could have had a real sports car.
Nothing against the Honda, it is a really great car. But in the end, it is still a FWD civic

Sounds about right, except for it being a pain to drive in day to day traffic.

The RX8 is not exactly a daily driver, even though thats how I use it. I'm glad he got the car that suits his needs.

Id like someone to explain to me.. (or at least try) why everyone thinks the RX-8 isnt exactly a a good daily driver? I normally shift between 3.5-4k with no problems and its not annoying to do so (though it boring as hell compared to when you red line it to get it on the highway)

Granted I havent driven any other stick for long periods of time recently, but I just dont understand people that say shifting in DD traffic blows.

lack of torque makes it a lousy daily driver.

try driving a v6 or v8 stick around town

some ppl don't like to shift, some ppl are not good at down shifting, and some ppl are just don't have a well trained right foot to control the throttle for smooth low speed high rpm.

high torque machine makes DD easy too, u hit power real quick.

personally, i think the RX8 is way better of a DD than the old 2.0l Mazda 3 I had...

the 3 was a good car, but not really all that fun. Both are sticks, and I deal with the PITA shifting in stop and go, for the days I can row through the gears....

then again, the 3 had little to no torque either, so... meh

I agree. It's not that it's bad as a daily driver, it's just high maintenance. A true daily driver wouldn't have tires that last only 16,000 miles, wouldn't regularly need oil, wouldn't flood easily... Most people want a car that they never have to think or worry about as their daily driver. Like my old 93 accord. The damn thing was a tank.

isn't this a repost.

"(Now awaits a bunch of ignorant babble from Civic owners who smoked an RX-8 in a street race or know a guy who has a cousin who knows a guy that has something insanely biased and pro-Civic to say.)"

I had thoughts about getting an SI for my first car.. Saw the new SI back in 2006 in an auto show and decided that the new model wasn't that bad looking.. But then.. In that same auto show.. I see this car.. I see.. An RX-8..

i wanted to buy an SI. I really wanted to like the SI. I went back to drive it twice to be sure. Problem was, I took a real nice drive in my 8 in between test drives. Forget the gas part of it, you couldn't pay me to take that car over the 8. It's just not even close.

the RX-8 is a perfectly fine DD car

people bitching about low torque being hard to drive are just lazy

and I get 19-20mpg overall gas mileage, and no I don't drive like a granny

The Si is a decent car for what it is... the only reason I hate them is for all those people who make them out to be what they arent.

Like the guy who commented on how there's going to be a borla for the Si... but completely ignores the fact that there's more to an exhaust note than the exhaust itself. I remember someone here once asking if the G35 exhaust would fit on the 8 or how to get that sound because he really liked it. Responses were basically along the lines of "all you have to do is but in a 6 cylinder engine with that exhaust".

As long as I have the 8, the only reason I can see myself looking to get an Si is if I need something with better mileage and can afford to get one cheaper than the cost of my gas. It's a decent looking car, but I see them a lot and know it wont be long before they're just as ricey as the past generations.

if I had to get a honda in that kind of class, there's no way I'd take the SI over the 05-06 DC5 type S. The DC5 just looks immeasurably better.

My dd is my 8, plus I can drive a si any day of the week (don't ask me how). The si is great if fwd is what you want. But a true sports car has to be rwd. I'm sure we all know the limitations of fwd when it comes to sporty driving. If efficiency is what you want, go fwd, if fun to drive is tops, is has to be rwd.

I would never find myself looking to buy an Si...due to what a lot of Si owners due to their cars, all I can think of when I picture an Si is a ricer with a giant wing and coffee can exhaust
