Shift Beep

I purchased a 2004 RX-8 about two months ago. My buddy has an 05, and I know you hear a beep when you reach 8500, but in my 04, it does not beep. Does anyone know if the 04 is suppose to beep at 8500 or did mazda just start that in the 05 model? If it is suppose to beep, any suggestions on the fix?

yep have a 04 also, it only beeps once and it isn't very loud. You have a manual right? The auto's probably beep to since they have the paddles but really what would be the point in the auto...

The auto does beep if you have it in manual mode. At least my 05 does. Kind of hard to get it to beep in auto mode

all rx8's have a beep at redline. I had a 2004 auto and that beeped. Now I have a 2005 manual and it still beeps. if yours does not beep you much not be listening. really, im serious. I actually have to expect it to hear it.

i have driven an 04 and my 05 manual, both beep, its a solid Beeeeeeeeeeep, that comes on when you reach 8500 and doesnt stop until you lower the revs under 8500...its loud enough to hear with the radio below about 10.

I want to wire in a relay so it triggers a shift light, cause with the radio over about 10 or with the windows down at freeway speeds....you cant/can barley hear it

A shift light would be a good idea. When I'm on the track with a helmet on, windows open, and the wind going by at 100+ mph, there's no way I can hear that beep.

Maybe your beep hasn't been enabled.

To enable it you have to go to your radio controls and hit:

Up down up down left right left right a, b, start.

Good luck.

true that, i have the same problem, im thinking of wiring in a relay to the speaker, so that it will trigger a small LED I want to mount somewhere near the gauge hood, above the tach.

My 2004 beeps firmly and loudly, but I have had the music up loud enough to nearly drown it out.

.....and yeah, we did discuss this just a short time ago, but I motion that we make this 'be kind to new members' week and give him a pass this time so long as he posts pics of his car hugging him.

Yep Heard It

Yep, I heard it today. I made it a point to make it complety quite in the car to make sure I would be able to hear it. It is actually fairly easy to hear. By the way, I am not playing Nintendo(Up Down Up Down Left Right On Off), I am driving a freakin RX-8!!! So much better then Nintendo!

I agree a shift light would be good, it is hard to hear with, wind engine and radio noise. The ideal spot would be just to the side of the tach with a small red led. ONe thing that might be a problem is the same beep is used for the lights on warning. The FD has a similar problem, they should have kept the old mechanical buzzer like in 70's rotaries. you can hear that easy even over a ported engine.

I got the beep once and I think that it was loud considering I heard it over the engine at WOT and through my helmet.
