Service Information - official Mazda site

The official site for RX-8 TSB's and other related service information is - www.mazdatechinfo.com

This site is the official Mazda North American Operation site available to the general public and Mazda dealers.

The site is relatively new and is undergoing development to better integrate other related service information sites operated by Mazda North American Operations.

In the very near future the Workshop Manual, the Wiring Diagram Manual and 3 to 4 other specialty manuals will be made available for purchase (via online access or printed hard copy).

In addition, you will also be able to order Clothing and Specialty items, such as pewter desk weights of the RX-8.

FYI - Mazda is no longer supplying All Data with TSB's...that site is not a reliable source at this point for Mazda TSB's.

Welcome MTI: nice to finally see a Mazda presence on the forum even if it is indirectly. Don't suppose you know why the car loses power on the dy... no I guess not...

Hmmm: the 'ECM Reprogramming Codes' section looks interesting.

btw - has everyone checked out the MAzdaUSA site recently? When you click on the RX-8, it takes you to a page that's similar to the other models with an option to check out the main RX-8 site.

Also, it seems like the inventory hack is no longer needed. I was able to search for vins freely by just checking the dealer's inv.

(sorry if this was posted before)

Noticed this myself at least a week ago, not sure how long it has been that way.

Nice thought re direct info sales.

But I'm unimpressed re TSB info -
Why should I pay Mazda $19.95 fo 24hrs access to TSB info? That could add up to lots of $ if one wants to keep up with the changes - and the $1500/year package is clearly not oriented to a vehicle owner. Given that the TSB info is required by law to be provided to the US Government and they make it avail from their site, I think I'll get the TSB info that way (for free).

Now, some of the other info is only avail from Mazda - for that they get to set supply and demand pricing.

To help sale that info - it would be nice if there were detailed descriptions of what is avail. It's hard to figure out if I want 24hrs of access unless I know what I can get during the access period.

There are a couple things to note here.

First, most manufacturers have now moved to a "pay for TSB info" model - for example a few years ago all VW/Audi TSBs were available on the net for free. You now have to buy a subscription to them from a third party.

Also, TSBs must be made available to the government, but the government only provides the title of the TSB; if you want the actual content you have to pay for it from a commercial source if your dealer won't provide you with a copy..

I believe PDF's can now be encoded with Digital Rights Management properties which can prevent saving, copying, and printing.

I check TSBs at www.nhtsa.gov. They usually have a title and short description. Their database also has recalls, investigations, and complaints. A word of caution about the complaints, though: anyone can add a complaint to the database unmoderated. I've seen some pretty weird, obviously bogus ones.

PDF & Other Topics

First topic - the site will use limited PDF, but primarily XML and SGML - the reason being is data processing overhead. PDF, when used in lengthy publications (such as select bulletins and manuals) is not as "user-friendly" because of file transfer speed.

Second topic - we have the RX-8 workshop manual but have not received approval to distribute as of this date. It will be available online at the MTI site as well as available in printed hard copy in the very near future.

Forum Participation

We are pleased to take part in certain aspects of the forum. The Service Information site is (to a limited degree) regulated by the DOT/EPA/CARB is intended to serve three clients:

1. Consumers
2. Franchised Mazda Dealers
3. Aftermarket Repair Facilities

We'll do our best to balance the regulatory issues with the market issues. Because we have three unique clients, we'll do our best to provide information, products and services at a fair price that have benefit for all (please keep in mind regulations require one price for all clients and therefore the pricing must take into consideration commercial users and commercial application of copyrighted material).

The site will evolve over the next 12-months - and feedback and suggestions will be analyzed and considered for implementation, however the site features and components are driven by regulation that we must follow. Thanks for the opportunity to share our site with the forum!

Question

Has anyone purchased a 24-hour subscription to this site? I may do so, but I'd hate to spend the $ and find out the information I'm looking for isn't there. If it is there, it would definitely be worth the $19.95 they're asking.

What I'm looking for is the pinout diagram for the connectors on the back of the audio head unit -- I plan to install an XM satellite radio unit soon and I'll need this information to know which wires to tap into to supply power to the FM modulator I'll be installing.
