SEMI-Urgent to yank out VFAD or not?

Greetings,

after spending an hour and a half on my back taking off my front bumper to install my racing beat protector screens, i finally got a look at our VFAD and while I know the intake for our RX8 is pretty top notch, from the look out of it our car has a pretty jacked up cold air intake.

I searched but never found any hard conclusions over ripping out the VFAD unit on our car.

It looks like with all the plastic and the way things are piped the intake pulls air AFTER its gone thru some of the hotness of the engine bay (condenser/radiator)

I realize if I were to get a Revi intake I would be yanking out the VFAD - but I'm not going to be getting an aftermarket intake.... I'm going to be putting that money towards the upcoming FI kits that are supposed to hit sometime soon.

So my real question is, should I yank out my VFAD? I know it will be a little louder (which isnt bad) but are there any other benefits? Are there any drawbacks I should know about if i were to take the longass tube and solenoid off?

The reason I ask urgently is because my front bumer is still sitting in the garage and everythign is taken apart - I need an answer ASAP so i can start putting my **** back together.

Thanks
Jeff

It's easy to take off once the bumper is off. It's just a few plastic pins.

The sound is slightly more noticable, but just barely. I would say it doesn't matter if you do or not.

thanks for the reply -- if i may ask: are you running a stock intake with no VFAD?

As long as there is no performance LOSS - I can see reasoning enough to take it off 1) for a slightly "better" sound 2) thats 2 or 3 lbs less on your front end and every little bit helps right?

I did at one point in time.

It felt like I lost some low end power, but I think that was in my head. I ended up putting it back on. Right now I run with the revi air duct and intake. No vfad.

Red face Fad....

The longer tube is engineered to tune the "mid rev" band for a little more power, it is pretty sure you will lose a little in that area.

Enough to miss? Probably not, and it will SOUND more agressive.

I took mine off anyway, to install the RB front duct.
