Security / moonroof?

Anyone know if the stock security system can be programmed to auto close the moonroof/windows?

I know it can be done with other cars w/ sunroofs... the manual says little about the onboard security.

No way?
No idea?
No big deal?

Anyone else want this on their wishlist?

From what I've read, it doesn't auto-close in case of an accident such as a child sticking their head through and then accidentally hitting the button. I've read that there is no audo-close on the moonroofs & windows up, for that reason.

Our MDX has auto close on the drivers side front window (one of my favorite features)... I don't remember if there is on the roof, but I don't think so.

As for the '8 I'm not sure either way whether or not you could wire it up that way. Does the stock alarm system have any outputs you could tap into when it "arms"? If so, then you could certainly wire something up with creative use of relays and such.

I'm sure it's possible. Having worked with 2 guys that have 15 years of experience each in the auto sound and security department I'm sure it CAN be done. For what cost? I dunno. Will it work reliably? Maybe. We rarely touch stock security systems because they are so hard to work with, and most people aren't willing to pay the $ to have us work on figuring out the solution. Now can it be done aftermarket? Definately. Will it work reliably? Definately. Is it expensive? Not really. Get any alarm that has one external output (almost all of them have one), and get a window module that works with the type of input / output that the stock windows and sunroof expect and wire it up. Audiovox makes a module that works with our car. Check out this thread. https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...threadid=25698 It'll let you know more what I'm talking about. And then you just use that alarm instead of the factory one.

in the my last car, VW GTI, the moonroof auto closes, it has this nice dial thing where you just turn to open/close partially or fully. i quite liked that feature, too bad not many other cars have this.

and, autoclose from outside the car with the key is a nice feature as well, since i forget to close my moonroof so often, saves you goin back in the car and turning the key just to close the roof.

Even having the use of electric for a minute or so after removing the key would be a great help! Lots of cars let you shut the wiondows and moonroof for a few minutes after you've removed the key - I was amazed this one doesn't.

Yes windows can be closed after shutting off but not the moonroof. Key has to be in the on position to operate the moonroof. An annoyance when you forget to close the m/r.
