Screeching noise when idling? 2004 rx8

https://youtu.be/NaAKYZNy5fc

Watch the video. Please can someone give me an idea where that sound Is coming from? It only started happening when the weather became very cold. I think it's coming from the oil pan area?

Sounds like the throwout bearing, you can find other videos of that on youtube and compare. If it is, the clutch will have to come out to replace the bearing, so consider doing the clutch at the same time

I listened and I agree with Loki. If its a 2004 with high mileage it is not surprising that a worn throwout bearing is the cause.

Mine makes a similar noise (tho not as loud?) that stops as soon as any pressure is put on the clutch pedal (before clutch is even engaging)... one recommendation is to put (red synthetic lithium grease) on the slave cylinder pin/clutch fork. See if it helps.

My TOB is new (7k miles). I have set my clutch pedal engagement properly (tho it was not when I bought the car).

Greasing the pin SEEMED to help a little, so I wonder if the pivot ball inside the trans wasn't lubed upon install (for my case since it is still present). Mine has made this noise since I bought it (5kish miles/almost 1 year ago) and it hasnt gotten worse. Sometimes It's not even there. Sometimes it is. Tapping the clutch pedal in 1-3 times will "reposition" whatever is squeaking and make it worse or go away entirely. This leads me to believe it's just something vibrating due to engine vibrations (such as the clutch fork on the pivot ball).

More insight here.
