in Canada we have R3s in WWP...... drool! I have s2 skirts on my series 1 and love em. wanted and still want the R3 seats, and wheels.

The wheels are good because they're forged and not too heavy for a 19x8.

The seats.... Well, have you sat in them for more than a few seconds at a time?

The seats give me whiplash if I am driving on a rough road.
Other than that my R3 has done 28000 miles and still very reliable in every way.
Several track days and still breathing strong. I am changing all fluids next year as well as spark plugs to freshen it up.
Might drop it a bit and get some wider wheels or different offset to fit the body a bit better.
Can't think of a reason to sell it apart from being slow off the line.

The S2 Renesis was modified to improve low to mid-range. Right there is a notable difference. I had a S1 and I feel a big diff with the S2.

I ran against my buddies R3 when I was NA, they were neck and neck until triple digits when I started pulling. We ran a few times, same results me driving his and him driving mine.

Wouldn't surprise me if this were the case generally. All that added cooling on the S2 might have increased aero drag.

I think it is the gearing in the R3, better off the line, not so much at higher speeds. Even then though not a significant difference. But the R3 is a much better car overall.

I would assume the different rear end on the s2 which added more lower end but took away from the top end.

It's possible that the rpm is not in the good range to accelerate in that gear.
I absolutely hate the 5th gear on the S2's. I can never get a clean shift because the ratio is too close to 4th and too far away from 6th.
Why can't they just have 5th ratio in the middle?

So in terms of solid upgrades, the S2 got proper Xenon HIDs rather than Halogen projectors. The S2 also got a more accurately tuned final drive ratio, enabling the maximum speed after drag to be closer to the actual possible top speed of the engine (roughly 155 on all RX-8s, both S1 and S2). The S2 all came with 6-speed transmissions and 6-port motors, both automatic and manual versions. All countries got a standardized 6-speed 6-port, so no more wondering if this RX-8 from Canada got the 5-speed manual 6-port or the 4-port manual 6-speed, or some combination in between. This change made understanding what exactly you bought very clear, as well as making production simpler and cheaper. S2 got a more reliable eOMP system rather than a mechanically driven system that could (and does) fail, even if the modification prevents the use of the common SOHN Clean oil feed adapter. There is discussion of owners talking about how to rig an old power steering fluid pump from the Mk 2 MR2. The S2 received a stronger rear suspension linkage that is the exact same shape and design as the S1, as some S1s suffered cracking on said part.

These are all the direct upgrades that come to mind right now. All of these changes are undoubtedly upgrades, even if the eOMP upgrade is no longer compatible with the older SOHN clean oil feed mod.

Actually S1 also has HID headlights while S2 Sport has halogen headlights. It's more of a trim configuration.
