Rx8 longevity

So im trying to sell my rx8, and this girl who wants to buy it keeps saying after about 110k miles they start needing major repair and referencing the apex seal being the big deal. Is this true? Im at 83k miles, car has almost always ran like a champ but i treat it right and dont drive like a crazy 18 y/o with a death wish. how many miles are you getting out of yours? at what point do repairs tend to start happening? I know taking care of your engine is key but every style of engine has that breaking point it seems. I did some searches on here and didn't see much and couldnt spend 3 hours trying to find my answer. so anything you can do to help me out let me know.

she's an idiot, find a different buyer.
I had Elf's car on the dyno last weekend, it has oer 165,000 miles on it and is still running like a champ.

like every car on the planet, it comes down to how you maintain the vehicle.

^ LOL The typically august gentleman that is Jedi54 must understandably still be a bit sleep deprived après his Dyno event hosting. His insight however is as always dead on target. This girl has apparently read too many in-the-minority rotary reliability disparaging threads.

Maybe the chick is just smart and trying to pull one off on yah to get a cheaper price???

Either way, at 100k miles, I start saving back money to replace the engine just in case.

A car with over 100k is worth less just due to being out of the engine warranty. That warranty is worth something.

Probably her boyfriend/mechanic told her about the apex seal thing. It's a bigger problem with the pre-2009 Renesises (Reneses?) because Mazda used a different lubrication system than they used on the FD, and the first version doesn't lube the center of the apex seal very well. That being said, Mazda has a lot of experience making incredibly hard apex seals now, so they still don't wear down very fast.

I agree with rotrarykillz. She's probably just trying to beat you down on the price. Tell her that if she's worried, this isn't the car for her.

FWIW, at 110k miles my Honda Accord needed big repairs. Clutch, CV boots, timing belt (should have done that at 80k), etc. Time marches on with all cars.
